Andhra Pradesh notifies new liquor policy, to allow private retailers

The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday notified a new liquor policy, allowing private retailers to sell spirits on the lines of Haryana and others with the state expecting to rake in Rs 5,500 crore in revenue. In a complete overhaul of excise policy based on best practices from other states, Andhra Pradesh has decided retail of liquor to be privatised with 3,736 retail shops notified across the state. The new policy will take effect from October 12, 2024, as per the notification by the state government.

Ahead of YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's planned visit to Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala Hills, the district police on Friday issued notice to several leaders and cadre of the party not to defy Section 30 of the Police Act which is in force. Tirumala devotees can be assured about laddu after purification: Official

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) executive officer J Shyamala Rao on Monday said here that devotees can set aside their apprehensions regarding laddus at the temple as the sanctity of the 'prasadams' have been restored with a four-hour purification ritual. The ritual was aimed at propitiating Lord Venkateswara Swamy from the alleged sacrilegious practices such as mixing animal fats in making Tirupati laddus and others. The quality of laddus at the Tirupati temple came under national spotlight after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently claimed that substandard ingredients and animal fats were used in making the laddus under the previous YSRCP government. Tirupati laddu row: FSSAI issues show cause notice to ghee supplier

In the wake of Tirupati Laddu adulteration allegations, the FSSAI has issued a show cause notice to a Tamil Nadu-based firm for supplying substandard ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, official sources said on Monday. In the notice, the food regulator asked A R Diary Food Private Ltd why its central licence should not be suspended for contravention of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011. According to the notice, FSSAI said it received information from The Director of the Institute of Preventive Medicine, Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh), that A R Diary Food Private Ltd in Dindigul was one of the suppliers of Ghee to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) since last four years. Hitting out at the previous YSRCP government, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday alleged that several procedures to procure ghee by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams ( TTD) were altered during the earlier regime. He also alleged that appointments to the TTD board became like "gambling" during the previous government and there were instances of appointing people who had no faith and giving preferences to non-Hindus on the board. Speaking to reporters here, the CM said people's sentiments were hurt after the revelation with regard to laddu. BJYM activists protest at Jagan's residence over laddu adulteration issue

, Mild tension prevailed at the residence of YSRCP leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in Tadepalli after some of the BJYM workers staged a protest over the issue of adulterated ghee being used in making the famous Tirupati laddus (consecrated sweet) by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) during previous regime. The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday agreed to hear a petition filed by senior YSRCP leader Y V Subba Reddy on September 25 over the Tirupati laddu (consecrated sweet) controversy raging in the country. Subba Reddy sought to file a lunch motion petition today for unearthing the truth surrounding alleged use of animal fat in making Tirupati laddus during the previous YSRCP regime. However, the Court said it will hear the petition on Wednesday, said Subba Reddy's arguing counsel P Sudhakar Reddy.
