BHU students protesting against the appointment of a Muslim professor in the Sanskrit department called off their dharna on Friday evening.
BSP president Mayawati too on Thursday blamed the government for the controversy, saying education and politics of religion or caste cannot be linked.
The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when students of M.A. first year reached their classroom and saw the photograph of Savarkar lying on the ground.
