Global water technology company A.O. Smith Corporation on Friday announced the completion of the acquisition of FMCG major HUL's water purification business Pureit. HUL, in a regulatory filing, said it has "completed the sale and divestment of its water purification business carried under the brand Pureit'." Pureit offers a broad range of residential water purification solutions across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Mexico, among others. HUL in July this year announced the sale of its water purification business to AO Smith India Water Products for USD 72 million (about Rs 600 crore), as part of a global transaction by its parent Unilever. While AO Smith Corporation, in a statement had said the purchase price would be approximately USD 120 million in cash, subject to customary adjustments. A top United Nations human rights official called Wednesday for a thorough investigation of all killings and other rights violations during the violent unrest leading up to and after the fall of Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. B'desh court orders report submission by Nov 28 in case against Hasina

A Bangladesh court on Saturday ordered the police to submit the investigation report of a murder case against former premier Sheikh Hasina and 23 others by November 28, according to media reports. The murder case was filed over the death of an 18-year-old college student in Mirpur, Dhaka, during a crackdown by the Hasina-led Awami League government on student-led mass protests that led to her ouster. On August 5, Hasina, 77, fled to India in the face of the violent protests against a controversial quota system in government jobs, which led to the death of hundreds of people since mid-July. India-Bangladesh DG-level border talks scheduled for November postponed

The DG-level border talks between India and Bangladesh, scheduled to be held in Delhi next month, have been postponed following a change in plan by the neighbouring country, official sources said on Friday. The bi-annual talks led by the heads of the Border Security Force (BSF) and its Bangladeshi counterpart the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were to be tentatively held between November 18 and 22 in the national capital, the first such meeting after the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said she wants the Bangladesh government to release the 84 fishermen from the state, who were jailed in the neighbouring country for illegally crossing the international border. Hasina should be deported if India obeys extradition treaty: B'desh adviser

A top adviser in Bangladesh's interim government has said that his country would strongly protest if India tried to refuse extradition of ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina by citing any provision in the treaty, media reports said on Friday. Law Adviser Asif Nazrul's comment came hours after Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday issued arrest warrants against Hasina, who fled to India after being ousted following massive anti-government protests. The tribunal directed the authorities to produce Hasina and 45 others charged along with her before it by November 18. Asif, while speaking to a news channel late on Thursday, said they will have many legal arrangements but "India is certainly bound to return Hasina (to Bangladesh) if India honestly interprets this."
