Conviction of Isro scientists behind Chandrayaan-3 'amazing': Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has praised the scientists behind India's successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, saying their conviction about it was "simply amazing." Addressing a gathering of eminent Indian-Americans at the India House here on Saturday, Jaishankar gave a first-hand account of what was happening on August 23 when India's third Moon mission Chandrayaan-3 touched down on the lunar south pole. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend the 15th BRICS Summit from August 22-24. Jaishankar, who accompanied Modi, during the visit, told the audience that they took time off from the BRICS meeting. "The Prime Minister was following the landing and was talking to the ISRO... because these are tense moments, you know, however confident anybody is about a mission, that that period you want to have, you want to have somebody around you who will give you reassurance. "And believe me, nobody can do reassurance better than Mr. Modi is, is today ..

Like Chandrayaan, Indo-US ties will go to moon and even beyond: Jaishankar

The India-US relationship is at an all-time high and the two nations have moved to a position where they see each other as very desirable, optimal and comfortable partners, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said, stressing that like the Chandrayaan, bilateral ties will go to the moon and maybe even beyond. Jaishankar made the remarks while addressing several hundred Indian-Americans who had gathered at the India House from various parts of the US to attend the 'Celebrating Colours of Friendship' event organised by the Embassy of India here on Saturday. There is one clear message today that our relationship is at an all-time high. But as they say in America, you ain't seen anything yet. So, we are going to take this relationship to a different level, to a different place, he said at the largest-ever gathering of Indian-Americans at the India House. Adtya-L1 spacecraft successfully escapes sphere of Earth's influence: Isro

ISRO said on Saturday the Aditya-L1 spacecraft has travelled beyond a distance of 9.2 lakh km from Earth, successfully escaping the sphere of Earth's influence. It is now navigating its path towards the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1), the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter. "This is the second time in succession that ISRO could send a spacecraft outside the sphere of influence of the Earth, the first time being the Mars Orbiter Mission," it said. The ISRO said earlier this month the Aditya-L1 solar mission spacecraft has commenced collecting data which will help scientists analyse the behaviour of particles surrounding Earth. Data collected around L1 would provide insights into the origin, acceleration, and anisotropy of solar wind and space weather phenomena, it said. The launch of Aditya-L1 by PSLV-C57 rocket was successfully accomplished by ISRO on September 2. Aditya-L1 spacecraft carries a total seven different payloads

Pragyan rover has done what it was expected to do on moon: Isro chief

Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) S Somanath on Thursday said the Pragyan rover of its moon mission Chandrayaan-3 has done what it was expected to do, and it would not be a problem even if it fails to 'wake up' from the current sleep mode. The national space agency is now gearing up for XPoSat or X-ray Polarimeter Satellite launch which may take place in November or December, he said at a news conference here after visiting the famous Somnath temple in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat. On the status of Pragyan, currently in sleep mode on the moon, the ISRO chief said it will wake up if its electronic circuits have not been damaged due to the extreme weather on the moon as the temperature dipped nearly 200 degrees Celsius below zero. "It is OK if it does not wake up because the rover has done what it was expected to do," he added. ISRO had said last week that with dawn breaking on moon, it made efforts to establish communication with lunar mission Chandrayaan-

Isro makes attempt to wake up Chandrayaan-3's lander, no signals so far

ISRO on Friday said it has made efforts to establish communication with its lunar mission Chandrayaan-3's lander Vikram and rover Pragyan to ascertain their 'wake-up condition' after they had been put into sleep mode early this month -- but no signals have been received from them as of now. Attempts to make contact with the lander and rover will continue, the national space agency said on social media platform X. With dawn breaking on the Moon, ISRO attempted to reestablish communication with the lander and rover, to revive them so that they can continue with scientific experiments. Both the lander and the rover were put into sleep mode earlier this month on September 4 and 2 respectively, ahead of the lunar night setting in on Earth's only natural satellite. However, their receivers were kept on. "Efforts have been made to establish communication with the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover to ascertain their wake-up condition. As of now, no signals have been received from them. Effor

BJP issues show cause notice to Bidhuri over his remarks against Danish Ali

The BJP on Friday issued a show cause notice to its Lok Sabha member Ramesh Bidhuri for his use of objectionable words against Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali in Parliament during a discussion on Chandrayaan mission's success. BJP sources said the party has sought a reply from the South Delhi MP for his use of unparliamentary words. Bidhuri had used derogatory words against Ali while speaking in Lok Sabha on Thursday. Speaker Om Birla later expunged those words. Union minister Rajnath Singh had expressed regret for Bidhuri's remarks. The video of Bidhuri's controversial references to the Muslim MP have gone viral with opposition parties demanding strict action against him, including suspension from the House. Speaker Birla has cautioned him and warned of strict action if such an offence is repeated.

Puducherry assembly adjourned sine die after holding session for 30 mins

Puducherry assembly met for half an hour on Wednesday and after transacting scheduled business, Speaker R Selvam adjourned the House sine die. As soon as the House commenced its proceedings, the Speaker made obituary references of former AIADMK legislators of Puducherry N Venkatasamy and S Palaninathan and also to the passing away of French writer and novelist Madhana Kalyani recently. All the legislators stood in silence for a couple of minutes paying homage to the departed legislators and the woman writer. After obituary references were made, the opposition DMK and the Congress legislators staged a walk out. The members wanted the session be held for a considerable number of days. The Speaker asked the protesting members to resume their seats and he would reply to their pleas. However, the legislators kept raising their protest and staged a walk out. The Speaker later hailed the successful landing of the Chandrayaan 3 on the south pole of the Moon on August 23. He said that the
