Students ask Assam policemen police to leave disputed area

In the backdrop of clashes between Assam's security forces and students from Mizoram at the disputed area along inter-state border, various Mizo students' bodies today demanded that the Assam Police personnel leave the spot within 20 hours, a statement said. The demand came after the Mizo Students Union, the Aizawl City College Joint Students Union and clan-based student bodies held a meeting here. However, the students' bodies did not mention what action they would take if their demand was not met. The students also demanded that the Assam government compensate the Mizo people injured in alleged firing and lathi charge by the Assam Police since the trouble broke out on March 8 at Zopui along the border separating districts of Hailakandi in Assam and Kolasib in Mizoram. Business leaders should have analytical abilities: Vinod Gupta

Top industrialist Vinod Gupta today said business leaders need to have strong analytical abilities and "knowledge of engineering can provide that foundation". "Most business schools take students without any analytical background. The students end up lagging behind others when they start their business careers," Gupta said at the silver jubilee celebration of his institute - Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur. IIT Kgp Director P P Chakrabarti said the premier institution would look forward to contributing to India's economic growth through technology-enabled management education. "The management school will be working with other institutions and departments at IIT-Kgp in areas of quality control, medical science and technology and manufacturing," he said. Primary education should only be in Indian languages: RSS; wants local language option for higher education

Pitching for promotion of local languages, the RSS today said the government needs to formulate a suitable policy to ensure that primary education "should only be" in mother tongue or any other Indian language. At its crucial triennial meeting of office bearers, the ruling BJP's ideological mentor passed a resolution on the need to protect and promote "Bhartiya" languages. Candidates appearing in higher education entrance exams of all faculties including technical and medical should have the option of the local languages, it said, adding that the medium of teaching and study material should also be available in Indian languages. The RSS also welcomed that the NEET and UPSC examinations have now been started in "Bharatiya" languages, but said the same option should be available for all other entrance tests and competitive exams. India, France ink pact for mutual recognition of educational qualifications

India and France today signed an MoU for mutual recognition of educational qualifications. Frederique Vidal, France's Minister of Higher Education and Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar signed the MoU at the 'Knowledge Summit' held coinciding with the first state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India. The Knowledge Summit brought together education and research industry experts. At the Summit, agreements were signed between universities and research institutions of both countries to boost student mobility between the two countries. National Police Academy director visits police HQ in Jammu

Director of Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy D R Doley Barman today visited the police headquarters here and discussed issues with regard to training and management of police personnel. Barman interacted with senior police officers during the visit, a police spokesman said, adding that Director General of Police (J&K) S P Vaid was also present. She said the academy was keen on conducting various courses and training sessions, such as IPS induction courses, training on different subjects, including cybercrime. UK college to expand Hinglish course offering

A UK college which piloted a language course in Hinglish last year is planning to offer it to a wider range of students from this year following an interest among students to learn the new language, which is a blend of Hindi and English. Portsmouth College said the popularity of the course, offered as part of a wider module, reflects an interest among students for work placements with Indian companies and that having a basic grasp of Hindi would give them a head start in the market. One primary school at every one km in Bihar: minister

The Bihar government has been successful in setting up a primary school at every one km while middle and secondary school are at every three and five km respectively, the in-charge minister (education) said. The statement was made by Shravan Kumar in the Bihar Assembly yesterday. The state government is gradually moving towards its goal of setting up a high school at every panchayat, Kumar said adding that out of 8391 panchayats of the state, there were middle schools in 5059 panchayats and high schools in 2200 panchayats. Odisha govt directs schools to run morning classes in summer

The Odisha government has directed all schools to conduct morning classes from April two as preventive measure against possible heat wave during summer this year, an official said. The School and Mass Education Department has directed in a letter yesterday to all schools including public schools and privately managed schools to reschedule timing of all classes between 6.30 am to 10.30 am from April 2. The letter said that mid day meals (MDM) would be served at 10.00 am and in no case the school would remain open beyond 11.00 am. It also asked the school authorities to complete assessment exercise/examination by March 31. As the state is expecting intense heat wave this time as per prediction made by the IMD, the letter asked the authorities to ensure adequate safe drinking water and first aid in schools. 200 Nepalese students receive scholarship from IndiaSCHOLARSHIP

India today provided scholarships to 200 Nepalese students as part of its effort to support human resources development and the overall socio-economic development of the country. The scholarship scheme was started by the Government of India in 2002 for meritorious Nepalese students marking the completion of 50 years of India-Nepal Economic Cooperation. So far more than 2,150 Nepali students have been benefited from this scholarship scheme from across 77 districts of Nepal. The scholarship scheme enables selected Nepalese students to continue studying MBBS, BE, BSc, BA, B.Ed, BBA and under-graduate courses at various universities and colleges in Nepal by providing financial assistance. Delhi govt invites proposals for developing 'happiness curriculum'

The Delhi government has invited proposals from organisations, universities and individuals for a partnership with its education department to develop a "happiness curriculum" for students. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had last month announced that the government planned to introduce a course in the next academic session, named "Happiness". The course will be introduced for classes Nursery to 8. "The proposals are being sought for developing an activity-based curriculum for the new subject.
