'Over 100 people attacked me': Victim recalls horror of Kasganj violence

Akram, one of the victims of Kasganj clashes on Tuesday said that over 100 to 150 people attacked him while he was passing through the area."I was passing through Kasganj towards Aligarh to meet my wife who was expecting, but suddenly 100-150 people attacked me. Some people from the crowd were angels who managed to save me from others and let me go. I have forgiven everyone," the victim explained.Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured stringent action against the perpetrators of Kasganj violence which claimed one life and left two injured.One person, identified as Chandan Gupta, died and two others were injured in the Kasganj violence that broke out on Jan 26.The clash broke out after an unauthorised bike rally was taken out by RSS-affiliated students' group Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in the city to commemorate the Republic Day and allegedly stones were pelted at them during the roadshow.

Man kills himself during video chat with girlfriend near Patna

A young man killed himself on the outskirts of the city during a video call with his girlfriend, a police officer said today. The man shot himself in the head in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, the officer said. The incident took place at Saichak under the jurisdiction of Beur police station where 19-year-old Akash Kumar took out a gun and pulled the trigger at himself while chatting with the girl via Whatsapp video call, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramakant Prasad told PTI. He said the matter came to light when police reached the man's house to investigate the suicide, seized his mobile phone and examined its call history. "The boy had begun talking to his girlfriend in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday over Whatsapp video call. Prima facie, the boy was depressed over his unimpressive academic career and pressure put on him by his parents to marry a girl of their choice," Prasad said. Man held with LSD

A 23-year-old man was nabbed here today for allegedly possessing high-end drugs, a Telangana Excise official said. An excise enforcement team nabbed the man who was found moving suspiciously in Moula Ali area on a specific input of drug peddling. The officials seized 10 LSD blots and 2 grams heroin from the man, identified as N Navynath, the official said. A case has been registered and further investigation is on. LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) is mainly used as a recreational drug and in psychedelic parties.

'World's oldest man' dies in Spain aged 113

A Spanish village today declared a day of mourning following the death of a retired farmer billed as "the world's oldest man", who passed away just over a month after turning 113. Francisco Nunez Olivera, who was 10 years old when World War I broke out, died on Monday in the village of Bienvenida in southwestern Spain where he had lived throughout his life, village mayor Antonio Carmona told AFP. "It's a very cold day and most of all a very sad day," Carmona said. Born on December 13, 1904, relatives credited Nunez Olivera's long life to a diet based on vegetables he grew on his own land and a daily glass of red wine. Every morning for breakfast, he would have sponge cake made with olive oil and a glass of milk. And until the age of 107, he went out for daily walks by himself, according to Spanish media reports published when he celebrated his last birthday. While the Spanish media described Nunez Olivera as the world's oldest man, his name did not appear on a list kept .

Never played for rewards: Prakash Padukone

Former Indian shuttler Prakash Padukone, who was conferred with the Badminton Association of India's (BAI) first Lifetime Achievement Award, has said he never played for rewards.Padukone said, "Don't say what badminton can give you, instead ask what you can do for badminton.""I did not play for money, rewards or recognition. Two killed after being hit by luggage door of bus

In a freak mishap, two persons were killed and another injured, after they were hit by a luggage door of a state-run 'Shivneri' AC bus, which opened automatically in Khadaki near here, police said today. The mishap occurred on January 28, when the trio was standing near a bus stop on the old Mumbai-Pune highway, a senior police official said. "The victims were struck by the left-side hydraulic luggage door after it opened automatically when the bus hit a speed-breaker," the officer said. The deceased were identified as Dipak Sorte (55) and George Ashirvadan (27), while Arogyadas Swami was injured. "The trio sustained serious injuries and rushed to a nearby hospital, but Sorte and Ashirvadan were declared dead on arrival," the official added. A woman in Thane district's Bhiwandi city has claimed that her husband has given triple talaq to her on Rs. 100 stamp paper.The woman, Shabnam, said on Monday that she was caught unawares when she received the divorce papers on Rs. 100 stamp paper."My husband used to beat me because he used to demand dowry and I was not able to give it to him. I had no idea about anything. I was at home when I got divorce papers on Rs. 100 stamp paper. The papers were delivered to me through the post office. Decomposed body of 30-yr-old woman found in Delhi

The decomposed body of a 30- year-old woman was found inside a bed box at her rented house in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area today, police said. The husband of the deceased, who was missing, was the primary suspect in the killing, they said. At around 4.30pm, the police were informed about the body by an acquaintance of the woman who had come to the house after detecting a foul smell emanating from it, they added. The woman was identified as Maria Masih. She had shifted to the house one-and-a-half-month ago with her husband Suresh Mehra (29), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said. A hunt was launched to nab the husband, Biswal said, adding that the body was taken to AIIMS for postmortem.

City Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar today discovered that an imposter had created a fake Facebook account of his and was "requesting" money from Kumar's friends. The incident was revealed by Kumar himself today morning, with the IAS officer writing on his Facebook wall urging his friends to not fall prey to the con.
