He started the year with a gold at Strandja memorial tournament in Bulgaria before moving up to 52kg. He clinched a gold in his new weight category in the Asian championship, beating Dusmatov again. BFI has nominated Panghal yet again after taking into consideration his remarkable performances this year.

The ritual will be conducted in the presence of the imperial regalia - an ancient ...
It took USD 6,400 and a 12-hour drive for the local mayor to pick up the shrine and towering portrait of Thailand's king which will stand in the centre of town -- a small part of a massive palace publicity campaign for this weekend's coronation. "Every government office across the country will do the same," said Aunchalee Chamchang, the mayor of Thungkhanan, a clutch of villages east of the capital. Portraits of King Maha Vajiralongkorn often dressed in a golden robe and staring inscrutably forward have been in place at many state offices since he ascended the throne in 2016. But imposing new images, some several-metres high, and decorations are mandatory at every state office ahead of his three-day coronation, which begins Saturday. The most elaborate set-ups include the gilded-framed portrait, a large pedestal, flags, cone-shaped "pan phum" floral tributes and bunting in various shades of yellow -- the colour of Thailand's monarchy. They can cost thousands of dollars, paid for ...

Shanghai hosts one of the world's biggest dog shows beginning on Tuesday but animal activists and online critics are condemning the event due to the widespread consumption of dog meat in China. The four-day World Dog Show comes for the first time to China, which consumes around one-third of the estimated 30 million dogs eaten for their meat worldwide by humans each year, according to Humane Society International. Britain's The Kennel Club, which calls itself the world's oldest such organisation, has already announced it was snubbing the event, citing the sometimes "brutal" methods used in China to slaughter canines. "The Kennel Club will not be attending the show with its roadshow stand," it said in a statement on its website. Various animal rights organisations have launched campaigns against the decision by the Belgium-based World Canine Organisation, known by its French acronym FCI, to award the event to China, and a petition on social-action site Care2.com condemning the show has .

Hundreds of turtles and tortoises, including rare and endangered species, face an uncertain future after their Singapore sanctuary -- a Guinness World Record holder -- was forced to relocate due to government redevelopment plans. At its peak around 1,000 of the creatures were housed at The Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum, which opened in 2001 at popular tourist spot Chinese Gardens. It also showcased specimens and memorabilia such as figurines and stuffed toys. While the venture built up a loyal following, there had been criticism online of the conditions the reptiles were kept in. Authorities decided to repurpose the area, and evicted them -- leaving owner Connie Tan scrambling to find and finance a new location. "I gave up quite a lot for this, and it's tough. My son's university education fees have gone into keeping this place alive," explains Tan, whose father created the original museum, securing the Guinness World Record for the "largest collection of tortoise and turtle ...
