Maruti, Hyundai say diesel PV sales may dip with stricter emission norms

Leading carmakers Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor India on Tuesday said the percentage of diesel cars in passenger vehicle sales is expected to come down with stricter emission regulations, increasing the cost of ownership. On a day when Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari spoke of the need to levy an additional 10 per cent tax on diesel-run vehicles to help cut emissions, although clarified that there is no proposal under the government consideration to impose such a tax, the automakers pointed out that already sales of diesel passenger vehicle have been declining. Hyundai Motor preparing for new group leadership position for EVs in India

South Korean automotive group Hyundai Motor is preparing for a "new Group leadership position in EVs" in India given that the country will be a competitive electric vehicle battleground in the years to come, the company said on Tuesday. The group also plans to make its R&D centre in Hyderabad a hub for future mobility research, including electrification and autonomous driving, while it is lining up five electric vehicles to be introduced in India by 2032. In a mid-to-long-term mobility strategy review of the Indian market during the visit of Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung to the country, the group said it has discussed the preparations for a "new Group leadership position in EVs" given that India will be a competitive EV battleground in the years to come. Hyundai drives in micro SUV Exter with price starting at Rs 5.99 lakh

Hyundai Motor India on Monday forayed into the entry-level SUV segment in the country with the launch of all-new model Exter, with introductory prices ranging between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.31 lakh (ex-showroom). The model, which competes directly with Tata Motors Punch, comes powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated with both manual and automatic variants. The five-speed manual trims, which deliver fuel efficiency of 19.4 km per litre are priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.31 lakh. The five-speed automatic variant is tagged at Rs 7.96 lakh with a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.2 km per litre. The CNG trim is priced at Rs 8.23 lakh with an efficiency of 27.1 km per kg. Hyundai Motor reports 5% rise in retail sales at 65,601 units in June

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Saturday said its total wholesales increased 5 per cent to 65,601 units in June 2023. The automaker had dispatched a total of 62,351 units to dealers in June 2022. Domestic sales rose 2 per cent to 50,001 units last month from 49,001 units in the year-ago period, the company said in a statement. Exports in June rose 17 per cent to 15,600 units as compared with 13,350 units in the same month last year, it added. "There is a positive customer traction for all our products and Verna, Creta, and Tucson have attained leadership positions in their respective segments in the first half of CY23," HMIL COO Tarun Garg noted. The company is now looking forward to introducing Exter SUV in the market, he added.

Hyundai ties up with Shell to install 60 kW fast chargers at 36 dealerships

Hyundai Motor India on Wednesday said it has tied up with Shell India to install 60 kW fast chargers across 36 of its dealerships in the country. The company has signed a memorandum of agreement with Shell India Markets Pvt Ltd in this regard, the automaker said in a statement. The strategic partnership aims to increase the expansion of charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles in the country, it added. "Such strategic partnerships are fundamental in accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles by customers to achieve the national goal of carbon neutrality," Hyundai Motor India MD & CEO Unsoo Kim said. Hyundai currently has an existing network of 72 electric vehicle dealers in 45-cities. Shell India Director Sanjay Varkey said the strategic partnership with Hyundai aims to improve the charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles in India by offering easy access and dynamic availability for a safe, reliable, and seamless charging experience.

Hyundai Motor's total sales rise by 3.5% to 58,201 units in April

Hyundai Motor India on Monday said its total sales increased by 3.5 per cent to 58,201 units in April. The automaker had dispatched 56,201 units in April 2022. The company's domestic wholesales last month rose by 13 per cent to 49,701 units as compared with 44,001 units in the year-ago period. Exports, however, declined to 8,500 units last month from 12,200 units in April 2022. "This strong growth has been backed by an overwhelming response to the recently launched all-new Verna that has more than doubled its volumes from its earlier version," Hyundai Motor India COO Tarun Garg said in a statement. The automaker looks to carry forward this momentum with a soon-to-be-launched SUV, Hyundai Exter, he added.

Maruti, Hyundai witness drop in retail sale market share in FY23: FADA

Passenger vehicle leaders Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor saw their market share dip in FY23 as compared with FY22 as they struggled with shortage of electronic components, according to automobile dealers' body FADA. Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kia India on the other hand witnessed an increase in their market share based on the retail sales last fiscal. As per the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the retail sales of country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India rose to 14,79,221 units in 2022-23 fiscal, attaining a market share of 40.86 per cent. It had retailed 12,39,688 units in 2021-22 and grabbed a market share of 42.13 per cent. Earlier, the auto major had stated that it faced shortage of electronic components last fiscal with an order backlog of around 3.8 lakh units. Similarly, Hyundai Motor India saw an increase in retail sales at 5,25,088 units last fiscal, however its market share dropped to 14.51 per cent. It had sold 4,79,027 units
