PM's assurance in US followed by absurd statements by BJP: Mehbooba Mufti

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertion in the US about the safety of minorities in India was followed by absurd statements by BJP ministers. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister was responding to tweets by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman about former US president Barack Obama's statement on the condition of minorities in India. PM's assurances in USA about Indian minorities being safe is followed by absurd statements from BJP ministers. One mocks Obama's muslim surname & issues veiled threats. Another justifies BJPs mistreatment of minorities by invoking bombing of muslim countries. BJP's doublespeak, Mehbooba tweeted.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the Manipur violence and said the first thing he should do is sack Chief Minister N Biren Singh if he is really concerned about the state. Every Indian is waiting for him to speak." "If Modi ji is really concerned about Manipur, then the first thing he should do is to sack his chief minister," he said on Twitter. No discussion held on 'PM post' during Oppn meeting in Patna: Sharad Pawar

NCP president Sharad Pawar on Monday said no discussion took place on the "prime ministerial post" in the meeting of opposition parties held in Patna last week ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due next year. There were discussions on issues like inflation, unemployment and "deliberate attempts" at some places to encourage communal forces, Pawar told reporters in Baramati town here in Maharashtra. He also hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for its criticism of the opposition meeting. Why was the BJP worried about the conclave, Pawar said, claiming there was lack of "political maturity". Drawing the battle lines, over 32 leaders of more than a dozen opposition parties held a crucial meeting in Patna hosted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday and resolved to take on the BJP unitedly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. At a joint press meeting, the opposition parties said they would fight the polls on a common agenda and state-wise strategy, setting aside their ...

Modi govt 'sabotaging' Anna Bhagya scheme in Karnataka, says Congress

The Congress on Sunday alleged that the Centre is "sabotaging" its Anna Bhagya guarantee in Karnataka and asserted that the 10 kg free rice scheme of its state government would be implemented at the earliest, "come what may". The Opposition party also asked why is that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana is not a 'revdi (freebie)', whereas the Congress guarantee of 10 kg free rice through the Anna Bhagya 2.0 scheme "vilified and sabotaged". In a statement, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh alleged that it is nothing but Karnataka's 'durbhagya' (misfortune) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is "punishing the poor of the state for voting to secure their future". From January 1, 2023 till May 24, 2023, the BJP-led state government in Karnataka alone lifted more than 95 per cent of the rice procured by all state governments under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) at a rate of Rs 3,400 per quintal, presumably with "Modi-ji's 'aashirwaad'", Rame
