Centre planning more filming incentives for global production: IB secretary

India is mulling increasing the incentives offered to international production houses for filming in the country and also grant one-off perks for big-ticket films. Last year, the government unveiled an Incentive Scheme for Audio Visual Co-production where the Indian co-producer can claim a cash reimbursement of up to 30 per cent on qualifying expenditure in India, subject to a maximum of Rs 2 crore. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra on Tuesday said the government is considering increasing the quantum of incentives as it realised that other countries are offering more attractive perks for filming. "We will reveal the quantum of increase shortly, the proposal is under consultation within the government," Chandra said at the 4th Global AVGC and Immersive Media Summit here. Best web series award added to Int'l Film Festival of India: Anurag Thakur

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has announced the addition of a new award category to the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) that will be presented to a show for its "artistic merit, storytelling excellence, technical prowess and overall impact". The Best Web Series Award will be given to an original web series on an OTT platform, originally shot and available in an Indian language, Thakur said on Twitter on Tuesday evening. MoS L Murugan to lead Indian delegation to Cannes Int'l Film Festival

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan will lead the Indian delegation to the Cannes International Film Festival, where Anurag Kashyap's crime drama "Kennedy" and FTII alumnus Yudhajit Basu's "Nehemich" will be showcased in the official section. Bengal bans 'The Kerala Story'; filmmakers say will take legal action

"The Kerala Story" producer Vipul Shah on Monday said they will take legal action against the ban imposed by the West Bengal government on the screening of the film in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered an immediate ban on the screening of the controversial movie to avoid "any incident of hatred and violence". "If that's what she has done, then we will again take legal action. Whatever is possible under the provisions of the law, we will fight that," Shah said at a press conference when asked about the ban in West Bengal. Yash Raj Film's Pathaan nears Rs 600 cr mark worldwide on day six

Production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) on Tuesday said its latest offering "Pathaan", headlined by Shah Rukh Khan, has raised Rs 591 crore gross worldwide in six days. According to YRF, on its sixth day, the film registered Rs 26.50 crore nett in India (Hindi Rs 25.50 crore, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions Rs 1 crore), taking the domestic gross to Rs 32 crore. The studio said that the overseas gross on day six stood at Rs 16 crore. Since its January 25 release, "Pathaan" has recorded Rs 224.6 crore in the overseas territories alone, while nett collection in India stand at Rs 307.25 crore (Hindi - Rs 296.50 crore, dubbed - Rs 10.75 crore).
