ISL 2020-21: Odisha FC fight back to hold Hyderabad FC to 1-1 draw

Odisha FC displayed great character in the second half as they fought back to hold Hyderabad FC to a 1-1 draw in an Indian Super League match at the Fatorda Stadium here on Tuesday. Halicharan Narzary (13th minute) put Hyderabad FC ahead but Odisha cancelled it out with a fine strike from Cole Alexander (51st). It was one-way traffic in the opening half with Hyderabad all over Odisha. Their dominance saw them head into the break with a one-goal advantage after creating numerous chances. The warning signs were evident for Odisha as early as in the 11th minute when a mistake from keeper Arshdeep Singh almost gifted Hyderabad the lead. Asish Rai drilled a low cross into the box which was spilled by Arshdeep, and fell straight into the path of Narzary. The forward unleashed a shot but Jacob Tratt saved Odisha the blushes with a crucial block. However, just two minutes later, Hyderabad would go on to break the deadlock. After receiving a long ball from keeper Laxmikant Kattimani, Arida

ISL 2020-21: 10-man SC East Bengal hold Chennaiyin FC to draw

A resolute Debjit Majumder stood tall under the bar as SC East Bengal held off Chennaiyin FC to a goalless draw despite a numerical disadvantage in their ISL match at the GMC Stadium here on Monday. Majumder made a slew of saves to keep CFC at bay for more than an hour after the red-and-gold were reduced to 10 players following Ajay Chhetri's send-off in the first-half. They stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches. SCEB now have 12 points from as many games, while it was a setback for the two-time champions Marina Machans' bid to climb into top-four with a second successive win as they remained at sixth with 15 points from 12 matches. The Robbie Fowler's side were reduced to 10 players just after the half-hour mark after Chhetri was booked for a second yellow. Chhetri was shown the first yellow in the 22nd minute after bringing down Anirudh Thapa, something he repeated on the same player after nine minutes to be sent off. But the former champions failed to make any count of

Laggards Odisha look to extend two-match unbeaten run against Chennaiyin

Laggards Odisha FC will be eager to extend their two-match unbeaten run when they take on an out-of-sorts Chennaiyin FC in an Indian Super League clash here on Wednesday. After suffering six defeats, Odisha notched their maiden win of the season by defeating Kerala Blasters last week. The bottom-placed side followed that by holding Chennaiyin to a goalless draw over the weekend. On the other hand, Chennaiyin have slipped to eighth after the draw, having managed only one win in their last five outings. The two sides will be hoping for goals and a much-improved performance. The earlier fixture saw both teams missing a number of chances to take the lead and left them in the bottom four. A win on Wednesday will change the script for both of them. However, after facing each other just a few days ago, there is every chance that the two teams will just cancel each other out again. This is something that has crossed Odisha coach Stuart Baxter's mind, but he said that whatever issues stem

NorthEast United and Bengaluru FC saw their winless streaks continue as they played out a drab 1-1 draw in the Hero Indian Super League here on Tuesday. The result meant Gerard Nus' side are now winless in seven games, while Bengaluru saw their four-game losing streak end but with a draw at the Tilak Maidan Stadium. NEUFC and Bengaluru both made three changes each to their eleven. However, the Highlanders were forced to make a late change before the whistle with Lalengmawia replacing the injured Lalrempuia Fanai. Bengaluru started the game strongly but despite dominating possession, they entered the break trailing a goal down against their opponents, who created better chances. Machado put NEUFC ahead with a brilliant strike, after netting a brace against the Blues in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Federico Gallego ...
