'Adipurush' writer Manoj Shukla apologises for hurting people's emotions

"Adipurush" dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla extended his "unconditional apology" for hurting people's emotions. The Prabhas-starrer mythological epic film, directed by Om Raut, was criticised heavily for its pedestrian language upon its release last month. The film's team, including Shukla, announced days later that they have decided to "revise some of the dialogues. On Saturday, the dialogue writer said he accepts that "Adipurush" has hurt people's sentiments. "I accept that people's emotions have been hurt by 'Adipurush'. With folded hands, I extend my unconditional apology," Shukla, who has penned the Hindi dialogues and songs of the retelling of the Ramayana, wrote on Twitter. "May Prabhu Bajrang Bali keep us united and grant us strength to serve our sacred Sanatan and our great nation. #Adipurush" he added. "Adipurush", which was released across the country in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil in June, stars Prabhas as Raghav (Ram), Kriti Sanon as Janaki (Sit

We've become language agnostic: PVR on growing market of non-English films

Language is no longer a barrier when it comes to good content, says Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director, PVR INOX Ltd, who has acquired Sundance Film Festival breakout "Past Lives" for India release. "Past Lives", by first time director Celine Song, is an English-Korean relationship drama that has earned rave reviews with critics hailing it as one of best movies of the year. It has already been released in the US and hits Indian theatres on July 7. Bijli said the commercial success of Japanese anime film "Suzume" inspired them to look beyond English titles and experiment with the kind of movies they want to distribute in India through PVR INOX Pictures, the motion picture arm of PVR INOX Limited. "In the last few years, we have become very language agnostic. We now watch Tamil films in Tamil with subtitles, Malayalam films in Malayalam, which is why Hindi remakes don't do so well. We just need good content now and that made us realise that we need to go beyond only English movie

Hollywood actors may join screenwriters on strike soon: Here's why

Hollywood actors may be days from joining screenwriters in what would be the first two-union strike in the industry in more than six decades, with huge consequences for film and television production. Here is a look at how it could play out, and why it's happening. WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH ACTORS' NEGOTIATIONS? The contract between the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists and the studios, streaming services and production companies that employ them had been set to expire Friday night at midnight Pacific time. But hours before that the two sides said they had agreed to extend the current contract, and talks on the next one, through July 12. Unionised actors have voted overwhelmingly to authorize their leaders to call a strike if no deal is reached. Talks also went past the deadline in 2014 and 2017, and agreements resulted both times. Reports have said the talks have been productive. But some actors have expressed worry that their leaders may not be

How changing Oscars best picture rules will affect contenders, theatres

The theatrical requirements for movies vying for the Oscars top prize are getting a little tougher. Starting with the 97th Academy Awards in 2025, best picture hopefuls will have to spend more time in theatres to qualify for film's top prize. The changes, announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this week, come after three years of adjusted release standards due to the pandemic. On top of the current one week qualifying run in one of six US cities New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, San Francisco or Miami best picture contenders would now must also now play for an additional seven days in 10 of the top 50 US markets. Additionally, there's several other new rules about when the movies must play in theatres. "It is our hope that this expanded theatrical footprint will increase the visibility of films worldwide and encourage audiences to experience our art form in a theatrical setting," Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a ...

AAP objects to certain dialogues, scenes of film 'Aadipurush', targets BJP

The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday raised objections to certain dialogues and scenes of the film "Aadipursh" -- a retelling of the Ramayana -- accusing it of hurting Hindu sentiments and alleged the BJP allowed its making for "cheap politics". As AAP panned the film, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor demanded that the Censor Board temporarily bar screening of the film "Adipurush" until a re-examine of its "controversial" scenes and dialogues. Directed by Om Raut, "Adipurush" has been panned on social media over its poor VFX and colloquial dialogues, with writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla under fire for Lord Hanuman's dialogues in the 'Lanka Dahan' sequence, among others. Addressing a press conference at AAP headquarters, Rajya Sabha MP and the party's national spokesperson Sanjay Singh read out some of the dialogues of the film and described them as a "grave insult" to Lord Ram, Goddess Sita and Lord Hanuman as well as the Hindu society. He claimed that the film has been made
