Essar Oil and Gas Exploration & Production Ltd is speeding up capital expenditure plans to explore and produce unconventional hydrocarbons that will help raise gas output at its flagship block to about 5 million standard cubic meters per day from less than 1 mmscmd now, its CEO said. EOGEPL is India's largest producer of Coal-Bed Methane (CBM) which just like conventional gas can be used as CNG in automobiles or as feedstock in industries. Buoyed by investor-friendly upstream policy reforms in recent years, including providing marketing and pricing freedom for CBM, the firm is drilling more wells, including horizontal ones, that will help tap into wider resources lying below coal seam in its Raniganj East block in West Bengal, EOGEPL CEO Pankaj Kalra told reporters on the sidelines of the India Energy Week. The firm currently produces 0.9 mmscmd of gas or 1 per cent of India's total gas output. "Our drilling campaign will see production rise to 2.3-2.4 mmscmd in the next 14-15 ...
Santos says it's exploring a range of alternative structural options
State-controlled Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) will kick off oil production from its much-delayed flagship deepsea project in Krishna Godavari basin in Bay of Bengal this month, helping reverse years of decline in output, a senior company official said. "We plan to start producing from the Cluster-2 project in KG-DWN-98/2 block this month and slowly ramp up," ONGC Director (Production) Pankaj Kumar told PTI here. A floating production unit, called FPSO, which will be used to produce oil, is already in the block. After several missed deadlines, ONGC has told Shapoorji Pallonji Oil & Gas (SPOG) that its floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) Armada Sterling-V should prepare to receive the first oil this month. Oil production from Cluster-2 should have begun by November 2021, but was delayed because of the pandemic. Kumar said ONGC plans to start producing from 3 to 4 wells initially and slowly connect others. "Initial production could be 8,000 to 9,000 ...
The 26 blocks earmarked by the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) for exploration and development of oil and gas under OALP IX, constitutes the largest-ever area offered by the government
The project comes after China National Petroleum Corp. began drilling a well in Xinjiang in May, which was described as the deepest in China at that time
A fire in a passenger van in eastern Pakistan Saturday killed seven people, including two children, a government official said. The dead included four members of the same family a woman, her daughter and her two granddaughters. Eight passengers received burn injuries of various degrees. Official Nabeel Bhatti said the incident occurred in the Sargodha district of Punjab province after a liquefied petroleum gas cylinder fitted in the vehicle leaked and exploded. The van was immediately engulfed in flames. Five passengers died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Three of the bodies were charred beyond recognition. Punjab Interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi ordered an investigation into the incident.
Essar Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Ltd (EOGEPL), India's leading pioneering unconventional hydrocarbon player, on Thursday announced its collaboration with Sensia for the digitalisation of oil and gas field operations to enhance operational efficiencies. "This strategic partnership aims to unify measurement systems, optimise decision-making and enable remote control of critical parameters across EOGEPL's wells, facilities and customer interface," it said in a statement. EOGEPL, which produces gas from coal seams (called coal-bed methane), will deploy Sensia's Avalon digital platform interface. "Sensia's Avalon platform offers a comprehensive interface that simplifies the capture, analysis and digitisation of well-related activities, facility-related activities and customer end operations," it said. The platform enables real-time data acquisition of essential parameters, such as mechanical, electrical, gas and water flow, pressure, and power backup device data, among other
The Centre can speed up the granting of exploration permits for oil and gas resources by easing seismic surveys in forest lands
Essar Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Ltd (EOGEPL) on Monday announced an investment in microbial eCBM technology to boost coal-bed methane (CBM) production from its CBM block in West Bengal. The company, which has so far invested Rs 5,000 crore in finding and producing gas from coal seams, called CBM, plans to invest an additional Rs 2,000 crore to enhance its reserve base and ramp up CBM production to contribute at least 5 per cent to India's total gas production, EOGEPL said in a statement. It has drilled about 350 wells on its Raniganj Block in West Bengal and is currently producing nearly 0.9 million cubic meters of gas per day. Investment in microbial eCBM technology will help raise the output by raising the recovery rate. "EOGEPL has collaborated with The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI) and ONGC Energy Centre (OEC) to establish the potential of eCBM microbial technology in the Raniganj-East Block of the company. "The feasibility test of the technique has been ...

As many as 26 mainly offshore oil and gas blocks and 16 coal bed methane blocks have been notified for international bidding as India aims to quickly increase the area under exploration
The British government opened a new licensing round for North Sea oil and gas exploration Friday despite criticism from environmentalists and scientists who say the move undermines the country's commitment to fighting climate change. The Conservative government argues that extracting more fossil fuels from the North Sea will create jobs and strengthen UK energy security, and is less environmentally harmful than importing gas and oil from abroad. I know it sounds contradictory but it's actually good for the environment, Climate Minister Graham Stuart said. When we burn our own gas, it's got lower emissions around its production than foreign gas as well as supporting British jobs, he told the BBC. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has pushed gas and electricity prices higher and squeezed energy supplies across Europe, prompting countries to focus urgently on securing new sources. The organisation that oversees the UK's electricity grid has said that planned blackouts might be needed th
By 2025, tiny Guyana could be producing more oil than the whole of India. This fact alone points to what we have missed out on by driving away international investment through policy hostility
