Power Min asks imported coal-based plants to run full capacity till Sept 30

The Ministry of Power on Monday extended the time period of its direction to all thermal plants using imported coal to operate at full capacity by three-and-a-half months till September 30 to avoid electricity shortage amid rising demand in the country. Peak power demand met or the highest supply in a day touched a record high of 223.23 GW on June 9, 2023. A power ministry notice shot off on Monday to 15 imported coal-based thermal power projects, stated: "It has now been decided to extend the time period for Section 11 to imported coal-based generators up to September 30, 2023." Earlier in February, the ministry asked these imported coal based plants to operate at full capacity from March 16, 2023, to June 15, 2023, invoking Section 11 of the Electricity Act 2003 to avoid any outage due to a sudden rise in power demand. DVC to double power generation by 2030: Chairman Ram Naresh Singh

Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) will double its annual power generation over the next seven years, its chairman Ram Naresh Singh said. Singh said DVC aims to add 8,000 MW of annual power generation from the current 7,000 MW, to achieve its target of 15,000 MW of annual power output by 2030. The corporation will invest an estimated Rs 60,000 crore for installing new power plants to achieve the target, he said. "The Centre has given its nod to the DVC to set up new power plants with a total capacity of 8,000 MW," Singh told reporters here on Sunday. Govt agrees to power transmission from Nepal to Bangladesh through India

In a significant move, India on Thursday agreed to allow Nepal to sell power to Bangladesh using the Indian transmission network under a trilateral arrangement, in a move that is seen as significant for greater regional cooperation. Fatehabad nuclear plant's 1st unit likely to commence operations in Jun '28

The first unit of the nuclear power plant in Fatehabad district's Gorakhpur village is likely to commence operations in June 2028, according to an official statement issued here on Monday. Torrent Power Ltd has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary for generating and transmission of power. The subsidiary, Torrent Urja Pvt 10 (TU10), was registered in Ahmedabad on April 21, 2023, and is yet to commence its business operations, Torrent Power said in a regulatory filing. DVC registers 'highest' power generation at 43.32 bn units in FY23

Damodar Valley Corporation achieved the highest power generation in its 75 years of existence, with a 6.5-per cent on-year rise in 2022-23 to 43.32 billion units, which mostly came from thermal sources, company officials said. It also registered a robust 29 per cent growth in power sales to Rs 24,432 crore in 2022-23 over the preceding fiscal, aided by tariff revision and a central scheme, they said. The plant load factor, too, stood at a record 74.23 per cent as against 68.96 per cent in the 2021-22 fiscal. "In FY'23, billing was Rs 24,432 crore, which is higher by around Rs 5,461 crore over the previous year. Apart from higher generation, regulatory approvals of tariff revision and the Union government's Late Payment Surcharge (LPS) scheme also boosted revenue collection," DVC Chairman Ram Naresh Singh told PTI. SWELECT Energy Systems Ltd, formerly Numeric Power Systems, engaged in production of solar photo-voltaic module has launched its solar module manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu, the company said on Friday. With the launch of the new facility at Sarkarsamakulam, located on the outskirts of the city, SWELECT supersedes its 140 MW facility established in 2013 in Bengaluru. The production at the manufacturing unit would be scaled upto 595 MW from the initial 385 MW, managing director R Chellappan said here. The company, which holds five per cent market share, has installed about 3,800 solar roof tops, 6,000 water pumps, he told reporters.
