REC, PFC to provide Rs 8,520 crore finance for Buxar thermal power plant

State-owned REC Ltd and Power Finance Corporation have inked a pact to provide Rs 8,520.92 crore finance for setting up a 1,320 MW thermal power plant at Buxar by SJVN Thermal Private Ltd. "REC Limited and Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) - Maharatna CPSEs under the ministry of power -- have signed a memorandum of loan agreement with SJVN Thermal Private Ltd (STPL) for financing 2x660 MW coal based Buxar Thermal Power Plant (BTPP)," a company statement said. According to the statement, the total estimated project cost is Rs 12,172.74 crore with debt requirement of Rs 8,520.92 crore. As per the agreement, the debt requirement shall be financed by REC and PFC. The agreement was signed in the presence of R S Dhillon, CMD PFC, N L Sharma, CMD SJVN, Ajoy Choudhury, Director (Finance) REC, and V K Singh, Director (Technical) - REC, and other senior officials. 1 killed, 3 injured in high-pressure gas leak at Navi Mumbai power plant

A chief boiler supervisor was killed and three others injured on Sunday after gas leaked from a high-pressure booster pump at the gas turbine power station of the Maharashtra Power Generation Company at Uran in Navi Mumbai, officials said. Police had earlier said an explosion in the boiler pump of the unit, located 48 km from Mumbai, led to the casualties. A statement from the Maharashtra Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) said at about 1230 hrs, there was a gas leak from a high-pressure booster pump, while a 120 MW unit located nearby was operational at Uran. Police said the leak was akin to an explosion, which led to the casualties. A team of Vivek Dhumale, the deceased supervisor, boiler technician K K Patil and Vishnu Patil, a helper who is a contractual employee, was carrying out a routine inspection when the accident occurred, Mahagenco said. All three received burn injuries, the statement said, adding that Dhumale succumbed to injuries while being taken to the Airoli Burn

NTPC places order for 9.3 lakh tonne biomass pellets for co-firing

State-owned power giant NTPC has placed an order of 9,30,000 tonnes of biomass pellets for co-firing in power plants that will help improve air quality, said the power ministry. Besides, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are procuring 13,01,000 tonnes of biomass pellets for co-firing in their power plants, the power ministry said in a statement issued on Sunday. Power Secretary Alok Kumar had taken review meeting on the status of biomass co-firing in the thermal power plants on October 28. The meeting was attended by Central Electricity Authority, NTPC CMD, representatives from Punjab, Haryana and UP, mission director of the National Bio Mission, and senior officials of the power ministry. It emerged in the meeting that as a result of various actions taken by the power ministry, initiatives for procurement of biomass have been taken up by NTPC and different states, it stated. GE to provide maintenance services for 718-MW plant in Bangladesh

GE on Wednesday said it will be providing maintenance services and a suite of digital solutions for the upcoming 718-megawatt (MW) power plant at Meghnaghat, in Bangladesh. The plant is owned by Reliance Bangladesh LNG & Power Ltd, a joint venture between India's Reliance Power Limited and Japan's JERA Co Inc. "GE's proven track record of providing high-quality technology, services and advanced digital solutions along with the local footprint in Bangladesh, gives us the confidence that the 718 MW Meghnaghat power plant will set a new benchmark in delivering sustainable power to the people of Bangladesh," said Ranjan Lohar, CEO, Reliance Bangladesh LNG & Power Ltd in a statement. The Meghnaghat power plant will be powered by two GE 9F gas turbines, one GE D11 steam turbine and three H53 generators.
