Raj Babbar

Raj Babbar is an actor-turned-politician and the President of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee since 2016. He is currently a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Uttarakhand.
Babbar entered the political fray in 1989 by joining the Janata Dal. Subsequently, he crossed over to the Samajwadi Party and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1994. He had been elected from the Agra Lok Sabha constituency in 1999 and 2004. He was suspended from Samajwadi Party in 2006. He crossed over to the Congress in 2008 and won the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Firozabad constituency. However, he lost the 2014 Lok Sabha election in Ghaziabad.
Babbar is pitted against his former acolyte Raj Kumar Chahar -- fielded by the BJP -- in Fatehpur Sikri in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded Guddu Pandit, a proverbial party hopper who has travelled from BSP to SP to BJP and now back to BSP.
Babbar is banking mainly on the support of young voters and also the fact that he belongs to the neighbouring Agra that is now a reserved seat. With Priyanka Gandhi having taken up a post within the Uttar Pradesh Congress, all eyes will be on Babbar's performance as the head of the party in the state as also how he fares in his constituency.
