Nhai signs agreement with HLL Life Care for incident management system

State-owned NHAI has signed an agreement with HLL Life Care Ltd to strengthen incident management systems and assist accident victims on National Highways, an official statement said on Friday. The MoU will help NHAI to strengthen its existing incident management system, which includes ambulances, route patrol vans & cranes, real-time tracking, and supportive supervision, the statement said. This will improve response time and facilitate referral of accident victims to the nearest health facilities, establishing a seamless process for incident management, it added. The pact will include Operation & Management of Trauma Centres/Emergency Stabilization Centers to maximize assistance during the golden hour and improve health outcomes. Bengal BJP chief's car meets with accident, Majumdar escapes unhurt: Police

West Bengal BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar narrowly escaped injury when his car met with an accident on NH-34 in Shantipur, Nadia district, on Sunday, police said. Majumdar said the accident took place when his car, which was trying to overtake a bus, was hit by the trailing pilot car. Three persons in the pilot car sustained injuries, he said. "As the bus was blocking a side of the highway, my car tried to overtake it and collided with a guard rail put up on the same side by police. In the process, the trailing pilot car hit my car," he said. "I escaped unhurt but three occupants of the pilot car were injured," Majumdar, the Balurghat MP, said. Fourteen people were killed and 20 others injured when a pick-up vehicle overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Dindori district in the wee hours of Thursday, a police official said. The accident took place near Badjhar Ghat at around 1.30 am when the vehicle's driver lost control over the wheels. As a result, the vehicle overturned, killing 14 people and injuring 20 others, the official said. The victims had gone to Amhai Devri village to take part in a programme in the district's Shahpura block and were returning when the accident took place. Soon after getting information about the incident, Dindori collector and superintendent of police rushed to help the victims. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident and announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

Fatal accidents in January decline by 15%: Delhi Traffic Police data

Fatal accidents in the national capital were reduced by 15 per cent in January this year compared to the same month in 2023, officials said on Saturday. Measures to check the accidents, including spatial analysis of accident spots, has resulted in a reduction in both daytime and night-time crashes, an official statement released by Delhi Traffic Police stated. According to the official data, a total of 97 fatal accidents were reported this January, while the number was 114 last January. The city reported 322 "simple accidents" in January this year and 313 in the same month last year. In 2024, a total of 99 people died in the accidents and 394 got injured this year. The number of persons who lost their lives and got injured were 116 and 423 respectively in January 2023, the data showed. Data from January 2024 compared to the same month in the previous year also showed a decrease in non-injury and "simple crashes" by 36.4 per cent and 2.9 per cent respectively. Road traffic injurie

Gadkari raises concerns over 'poor quality DPRs' for highway construction

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday expressed concerns over poor quality of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) prepared by consultants for the construction of highways, saying that no good work has been done in this regard in the last 10 years. Addressing an event here, Gadkari said some officers of state-owned NHAI are responsible for bankruptcy of various infrastructure companies. "In the last 10 years, no good work had been done in preparation of DPRs... I am worried about the poor quality of DPRs prepared by consultants," the road transport and highways minister said. He added that it is regrettable that full payments are not made to DPR consultants by the government. Gadkari said the entire effort in the ministry is to float the tender for construction of highways, without focus on the quality. There is not a single highways project that does not have black spots, he added. Gadkari exhorted NHAI to hire competent people for DPR preparation for the construction of highways.

Massive vehicle pileup on California highway leaves 2 dead, 9 injured

At least 12 people were killed and around 30 others injured on Wednesday in a head-on collision between a coal-laden truck and a bus in Golaghat district of Assam, police said. 6 Indian-origin family members killed in fatal crash in Texas, US

In a tragic car accident, at least six Indian-origin family members, including two children, were killed in the US state of Texas, officials said. The accident occurred on Tuesday evening when a minivan and a pickup truck collided head-on near Johnson County, near Fortworth, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). 13% decline in road accidents in Himachal Pradesh in 2023, say Police

Himachal Pradesh saw a 13 per cent drop in the number of road accidents reported in the state this year, police officials said on Friday. There has been a 13 per cent reduction in road traffic accidents, 19 per cent dip in deaths due to them and 15 per cent drop in injuries between January 1 and December 1 as compared to the same period in 2022, a statement issued here by the police headquarters said. The reduction in the number of road accidents reflects the greater awareness among drivers in Himachal Pradesh and the improvement in identifying black spots on national highways and district roads, Director General Police (DGP) Sanjay Kundu said. The number of accidents has come down despite a 10 per cent growth in road lengths and a nine per cent growth of vehicle registration, he said. Two BRO officials were injured after their SUV was hit by a private bus near the Silkyara tunnel site on Sunday afternoon, police said. The accident occurred just half a kilometre away from the tunnel, where 41 workers have been trapped for 14 days, when three Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials were on the way to the site in their official vehicle. An overloaded private bus coming from the opposite side rammed into their vehicle, an official said. The impact was such that their vehicle was dragged for a few metres before it stopped by the parapet along the hill road. The front portion of the SUV was completely damaged, the official added. Two BRO officials of the three travelling in the vehicle sustained head injuries in the accident, the official further said.
