Mayawati slams Cong, SP's double standards, rules out future alliances

BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday took a dig at the Congress' "Samvidhan Samman Sammelan" and urged people to be cautious of the "double standards" of the grand old party and its ally the Samajwadi Party. She also made it clear that her party would not form any alliance with the likes of the Samajwadi Party and the Congress in any election. In a series of posts on X, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief blasted the Congress for "not honouring" BR Ambedkar with the Bharat Ratna. The followers of Ambedkar will never forgive the Congress, which organised the "Samvidhan Samman Sammelan" in Prayagraj, for not conferring the main architect of the Constitution with the Bharat Ratna during his lifetime or after his death, Mayawati said. She also lashed out at the Congress for not declaring a single day of national mourning following the death of Kanshi Ram who, according to Mayawati, gave impetus to Ambedkar's movement. The Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh at that time also did not .

Akhilesh calls for defamation case against BJP MLA for remarks on Mayawati

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has said that a defamation case should be filed against BJP MLA Rajesh Chaudhary for his remarks against BSP chief Mayawati. In a video from a news channel shared by Yadav on X on Friday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Chaudhary from Mathura district's Mant area is heard saying, "There is no doubt that Mayawati has been the chief minister of UP four times and it was us (BJP) who made her the chief minister for the first time. We made that mistake". "Mayawati is the most corrupt chief minister of Uttar Pradesh," Chaudhary goes on to say in the video. Condemning these remarks, Yadav in a post in Hindi on X on Friday said, "Political differences have their place but no one has the right to tarnish her (Mayawati's) dignity as a woman. BJP members are saying that making her chief minister was a mistake, which is also an insult to public opinion in a democratic country." "Furthermore, making baseless allegations that she was the most corrupt chi

Mayawati slams SP, Congress for being silent on SC, ST sub-classification

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday accused Samajwadi Party and Congress of maintaining silence on the Supreme Court's decision to make sub-classification within the Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes reservation and said their thinking is "anti-reservation". "The conduct, character and face of SP, Congress and others has always been anti-reservation, which is proven by their lack of support of Bharat Bandh. Anyway, it is not clear from their statements regarding reservation whether they are in favour of the Supreme Court's decision or against it? Why is there such a confusion?," she said raising questions in a series of posts on X in Hindi. Mayawati, in a post on X in Hindi, said that SP, Congress and others speak in support of SC/ST reservation out of interest and compulsion but are silent on the Supreme Court's decision on August 1 regarding the classification of ST/SC reservation and creamy layer. She added that their silence shows their anti-reservation ...

Countless questions waiting for BJP in Uttar Pradesh: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav posed around two dozen questions for the BJP on Friday, saying people across Uttar Pradesh are waiting for the ruling party with these queries. Listing questions on topics including stray cattle, unemployment, law and order and farmers' issues in a long post in Hindi on X, Yadav said, "Countless questions are waiting for the BJP's allies on every footpath, panchayat, street corner, market, square and chowk." "Now, the public is impatient to tell the BJP's allies that we will not talk to those who are not with the public," he added. Referring to the poor show of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha polls, Yadav claimed that after the election results, factions in the saffron party have lost faith in each other. By blaming each other, they will neither be able to win back that trust nor any upcoming election, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said. BJP govt wants to delay recruitment of assistant teachers: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday claimed that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh wanted to drag the issue of recruitment of assistant teachers. The Allahabad High Court had recently directed the Uttar Pradesh government to prepare a fresh selection list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant teachers in the state within three months in line with the Basic Education Rules and Reservation Guidelines. It set aside the selection lists issued in June 2020 and January 2022, which included 6,800 candidates of the reserved categories. "Computer can prepare the complete list for honestly appointing 69,000 teachers in three hours. The UP BJP government seeking three months for the exercise leads to suspicion," Yadav said in a post on X. "This is creating doubts among the candidates against the scam-ridden BJP government that by taking this matter to the Supreme Court through someone, the anti-reservation BJP government wants to put it off for the rest of its tenure," he ..

Congress, BJP spar over lateral entry issue, SP warns of agitation

The opposition parties on Sunday slammed the move to hire public servants through lateral entry, claiming it will snatch reservations from SCs, STs and OBCs, but the BJP hit back stating the NDA government was bringing transparency to this mode of recruitment started by the Congress-led UPA. The Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also alleged that it was a "conspiracy" by the BJP to appoint its ideological allies to high posts through the back door. "Privatisation of the IAS is Modi's assurance for ending reservation," Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged, adding the INDIA bloc will strongly oppose this "anti-national step". Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav warned of an agitation on the issue from October 2. Countering the charge, the BJP cited office memorandums, including the one issued by the Union Home Ministry in 2020, that emphasised the need for strict adherence to the reservation guidelines in lateral entries, and asked Gandhi to "stop ...

Those who give pain can't give medicine: Akhilesh's dig at Keshav Maurya

In an apparent attack on Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya over his remarks on the Allahabad High Court's order on assistant teachers' recruitment, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that those who give pain shouldn't claim to give medicine. In a post on X in Hindi, the SP chief said the "favoured deputy chief minister" was part of the government which snatched reservation from the youth and when they got justice after a long fight, he came forward to show himself as sympathetic. The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to prepare a fresh selection list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant teachers within three months, setting aside the lists issued in June 2020 and January 2022 which included 6,800 candidates. The bench also revised the earlier order and said the reserved category candidates who qualify for the general category merit list should be migrated to that category. Govt's move to allow lateral entry violates Constitution: SP, BSP

The Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have slammed the government's move seeking applications for lateral entry into the bureaucracy, terming it as the BJP's "conspiracy" to appoint its ideological allies to high posts through the back door SP chief Akhilesh Yadav also warned of an agitation on this issue from October 2. In a post on 'X', Yadav said, "Time has come to launch a nationwide movement against the conspiracy of the BJP to appoint its ideological allies to high government posts in UPSC through the back door." "This method will close the way for today's officers as well as the youth to reach higher posts in the present and future. Common people will be limited to clerks and peons only. In fact, the whole trick is to snatch reservation and their rights from PDA (backward, Dalit and minorities)," the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister charged. "Now that BJP has come to know that PDAs across the country have woken up against the BJP's trick to abolish the Constitution,

BJP's Sudhanshu Trivedi attacks INDIA bloc for 'covering up' for criminals

The BJP alleged on Tuesday that the recent rise in the political strength of 'do ladke', a reference to Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, has resulted in criminals getting emboldened in Uttar Pradesh. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the Samajwadi Party of sheltering criminals, and targeted the Yadav-led party over the arrest of two persons allegedly associated with it on the charges of rape and attempt to rape. Not only the SP has been giving "cover fire" to criminals but the members of the opposition INDIA bloc are helping each other defend criminal elements of their alliance partners as well, he told reporters. Uneasy relations between Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and opposition parties on Friday erupted in a heated exchange between the chair and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan, leading to a walkout by opposition parties and Dhankhar calling it "disrespect to democracy and constitution". The cine star objected to the "tone" in which Dhankhar addressed her as well as switching off the mike of Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, triggering a heated exchange. The Chairman, who is also the Vice President of India, said he can't be "schooled" and that Bachchan "may be anybody... a celebrity" but she has to observe decorum. BJP working like real estate company, says Akhilesh Yadav on Waqf bill

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is just an excuse to sell land in the interest of BJP members, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Thursday and claimed that the saffron party was working like a real estate company. He also suggested that the BJP rename itself to the "Bharatiya Zameen Party". In a post on X, Yadav said the bill that seeks to amend provisions of the Waqf Act, 1995, were merely an excuse. "The target is to sell defence, railway, Nazul land. Waqf board lands are just another link in the chain of 'schemes for the benefit of BJP members' after defence land, railway land, Nazul land," he said in Hindi. "Why doesn't the BJP openly write: 'Issued in the interest of BJP members'," Yadav added. "A guarantee should be provided in writing that Waqf Board lands will not be sold." Attacking the saffron party, Yadav said the BJP was working like a real estate company. He added, "It should change its name by writing 'zameen (land)' in place of 'janata (people)' -- Bharatiy

BJP govt trying to defame SP for vote bank politics, says Akhilesh Yadav

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday alleged the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is trying to defame his party for vote bank politics ahead of Assembly by-polls. No matter what the BJP may do, people have lost hope from it and its "safaya' (wipeout) is certain, Yadav added. The former UP chief minister also alleged that the BJP's thinking about Muslims is "undemocratic". When asked about the Ayodhya rape case, Yadav said, "Before the by-elections (to be held on 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh), the BJP wants to conspire and their aim from the very first day has been to defame the 'samajwadis' (socialists). Especially, their thinking about Muslims is undemocratic." He was talking to reporters after paying tribute to socialist leader Janeshwar Mishra, popularly known as 'Chhote Lohia', on his birth anniversary. Referring to the Ayodhya incident, he said, "There is a revised law that came in 2023 in the BJP government which says that if a crime with a provision of more than seven years of ...
