Nasscom inks pact with Australian Business NSW to accelerate market access

IT industry body Nasscom on Friday said it has signed an agreement with Australian industry body Business NSW to facilitate market access for technology companies in the two markets. Indian technology companies and firms in New South Wales will receive accelerated access to each other's markets as part of the new agreement that aims to synergise economic cooperation between India and Australia, Nasscom said.. An agreement between the Department of Enterprise, Investment, and Trade (DEIT), Indian industry body Nasscom, and Australian industry organisation Business NSW was signed in Sydney on Thursday, leveraging the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) and positioning NSW at the centre of the burgeoning Australia-India technology corridor, Nasscom said in a statement. The International Publishers' Association (IPA) president Karine Pansa accused big technology companies of using copyrighted content "without permission" for AI-generated materials and urged publishers to raise their concerns. Pansa, who recently visited India for the ongoing New Delhi World Book Fair, said the IPA is holding discussions with its member countries, including India, on how to deal with the big tech companies for infringing publishers' copyrights by "reproducing their materials without permission" for AI training. "The big tech companies are using the content available on the internet to regenerate the new content without consent, and part of this content is books, the content of which belongs to the publishers. It is being used without their permission, consent, licensed payment, and remuneration. Tech companies plan to sign accord to combat AI-generated election trickery

At least six major technology companies are planning to sign an agreement this week that would guide how they try to put a stop to the use of artificial intelligence tools to disrupt democratic elections. The upcoming event at the Munich Security Conference in Germany comes as more than 50 countries are due to hold national elections in 2024. Attempts at AI-generated election interference have already begun, such as when AI robocalls that mimicked US President Joe Biden's voice tried to discourage people from voting in New Hampshire's primary election last month. "In a critical year for global elections, technology companies are working on an accord to combat the deceptive use of AI targeted at voters," said a joint statement from several companies on Tuesday. "Adobe, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, TikTok and others are working jointly toward progress on this shared objective and we hope to finalize and present details on Friday at the Munich Security Conference."
