Baby killer nurse Lucy Letby sentenced to whole-life sentence in UK

Nurse Lucy Letby was on Monday sentenced to a whole-life term by a UK court for killing seven babies and attempting to murder at least six others while working at a hospital in northern England. Justice James Goss removed any early release provisions from the whole-life sentence, saying the seriousness of her crimes meant that the 33-year-old will spend the rest of her life behind bars. Letby was last week found guilty of the murder of seven newborn babies and also found guilty of seven counts of attempted murder relating to six other babies. The Indian Air Force (IAF) will host a mega multilateral military exercise next year that was originally planned for October. The exercise, 'Tarang Shakti', is likely to be held in the middle of 2024 as a number of participating air forces conveyed to the IAF that they will not be able to join the wargame if it is held this year, sources in the defence and military establishment said on Wednesday. The exercise is expected to witness participation of around 12 air forces and the focus of the wargame will be to improve military cooperation and enhance interoperability, they said. It will be the biggest air exercise being organised in India. It is learnt that air forces of France, the UK, Australia, the US and Japan would participate in the exercise. Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande leaves for UK to attend military event

Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande on Wednesday left for the UK on a five-day visit to attend a prestigious military event and hold talks with the top British defence brass on bilateral strategic issues. Hackers may have information on tens of millions of British voters after they got access to electoral registers, the UK's election watchdog said on Tuesday nearly a year after the breach was discovered. India, UK close to concluding FTA talks, working to iron out issues on IPRs

India and the UK are "very close" to concluding negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement as both sides are working to iron out differences on issues including investment treaty, intellectual property rights (IPRs) and rules of origin, a senior government official said on Friday. The official also said there is a broad consensus on matters related to auto and spirits, however "nothing is agreed till everything is agreed". The 11th round of talks was concluded recently. For that round, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal visited London and took stock of the negotiations.
