PM inaugurates, lays foundation of projects worth 4,200 cr in Uttarakhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation of multiple development projects in Uttarakhand worth nearly Rs 4,200 crore. The projects, numbering 23 in total, will give impetus to infrastructure, education, health, electricity, drinking water, sports, tourism, disaster mitigation and horticulture sectors in the hill state. The projects whose foundation stones were laid by the prime minister at an event in Pithoragarh included 21,398 poly-houses, cultivation of high density intensive apple orchards, five works of double-laning of roads and slope treatment of national highways and the construction of 32 bridges in the state. These also included strengthening of disaster management mechanism, expansion of education, health and sports facilities and development of temples in the Manaskhand area on the lines of Chardham. PM Narendra Modi to begin Uttarakhand's Kumaon region visit on Thursday

Cultural troupes from Uttarakhand's Kumaon region will welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi at several points of a renovated 6-km road decorated with murals and paintings as he travels from the Naini Saini airport to a public meeting venue here on Thursday. Modi will begin his visit with a darshan of Adi Kailash peak, the abode of lord Shiva, at Jolingkong from where he will head to Gunji village. There he will meet locals and security personnel, officials here said on the basis of an itinerary released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Panic grips north India as four earthquakes shake Nepal in an hour

Four earthquakes, the strongest being of magnitude 6.2, jolted Nepal in quick succession on Tuesday with tremors reverberating through parts of north India, including Delhi-NCR, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said. An NCS official said the first quake of magnitude 4.6 struck west Nepal at a depth of 10 km at 2:25 pm, followed by the 6.2 magnitude jolt at 2:51 pm. Two more quakes (magnitude 3.6 and 3.1) hit the same region at a depth of 15 km and 10 km at 3:06 pm and 3:19 pm, respectively. The epicentre of the strongest quake was located in Dipayal district in west Nepal, 206 km southeast of the pilgrimage town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand and 284 km north of Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami returned here on Saturday from his five-day UK visit and said the push to investments in the state will create fresh employment opportunities for the local youth. "We inked MoUs for investments worth more than Rs 12,500 crore with international firms during the visit. A large number of investors, which also include NRIs, are keen to invest in the state. MoUs for investments worth Rs 3,000 crore in Uttarakhand signed in UK

Agreements for investments worth Rs 3,000 crore in Uttarakhand were signed on Thursday, the third day of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's current tour of the UK to invite investors. An MoU for investment worth Rs 2,000 crore was signed with Aager Technology and another for investment worth Rs 1,000 crore with Fira Barcelona, an official release here said. Aager Technology will invest in Lithium battery plants in the state. Fira Barcelona is an European group engaged in event management with expertise in organising world-class business fairs. Two MoUs were also signed with Ease My Trip to promote Uttarakhand internationally as a tourist destination.
