Strict action against those involved in black marketing of Remdesivir: Health Minister

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on April 16 said that strict action would be taken against those involved in black marketing of the Remdesivir drug. "Companies manufacturing COVID-19 drug Remdesivir have been asked to ramp up production. I assure you that strict action will be taken against those who are involved in black marketing of the drug and other malpractices," said Health Minister.

Karnataka Government to issue new circular regarding gatherings

Bengaluru, Apr 16 (ANI): Karnataka government will issue new circular regarding social, political, cultural gathering, informed Health Minister K Sudhakar after meeting with state Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. "We have already imposed night curfew. Today we will issue a new circular regarding gatherings-social, political, cultural- we will discourage all these. There should be no more than 100 people at weddings in closed spaces and not more than 200 in open spaces," said Karnataka Health Minister.

Health Minister Harsh Vardhan visits AIIMS Trauma Centre

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma centre on April 16 and announced that 70 more beds will be added to Trauma Centre. "We have decided to add 70 more beds at the AIIMS Trauma Centre and 100 more beds at the National Cancer Institute, Jhajjar. I am sure we will be able to overcome the challenges we are facing due to surge in COVID19 cases now," the Minister said. "I have visited COVID wards in the Trauma Centre here with the Director and other doctors and met COVID patients individually. Most of them are in a recovery state. The main motive behind the visit is to check the bed availability and to increase according to the need. There are 266 COVID beds available in AIIMS till date, 253 are occupied with patients," he added.

QUAD provides stability to Indian Ocean and Pacific region: Maldives Foreign Minister

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): Maldives Foreign Affairs Minister Abdulla Shahid expressed satisfaction on QUAD members' dialogue. He said that QUAD provides stability to the Indo-Pacific Region. "It is good to see that there is dialogue between the QUAD (members) because it provides stability to the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Region," said Maldives Foreign Minister.

COVID: Decision on existing restrictions in Karnataka on April 20

Bengaluru, Apr 16 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on April 16 that existing restrictions in the state will continue till the next decision on night curfew. "Night curfew will continue in 7 districts. Cases have increased, we have collected all information after discussion with our officers. We will take a call on extension (of night curfew) on April 20th, till then the existing restrictions will continue," the CM said. "Don't need to compare our state with Delhi or other states, we have our own issues which need to be addressed as far as COVID is concerned, appropriate action will be taken to curb the COVID-19 in the state. Same will continue till 20th April. After that a meeting of experts will be called and call will be taken," he added.

COVID-19: Monuments in Delhi to remain closed till May 15

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): With the resurge of COVID-19 cases in the national capital, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on April 15 announced that monuments would remain shut till May 15. Famous Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Jantar Mantar, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar and other centrally protected monuments would remain closed. Malini, a visitor said, "I had came here to visit Red Fort but could not get inside only look at it from outside." Another visitor Sandesh said, "I had came to visit Delhi but we have to follow government's protocol too."

"In international relations there is no comparison. For countries like Maldives, we have only friends. We don't compare friends. But India has always been first responder and our best friend," said Maldives Foreign Minister.

COVID-19: India records highest ever spike of 2.17 lakh cases

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): COVID-19 situation continues to deteriorate across the country as there is no holding back to surge in cases. A day after daily cases breached 2-lakh mark, in April 15 India reported 2,17,353 new cases. Country's COVID caseload is at 1,42,91,917 with 15,69,743 active cases. 1,18,302 people were discharged in last 24 hours taking total recoveries to 1,25,47,866. With 1,185 new deaths, death toll has mounted to 1,74,308. According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 26,34,76,625 samples tested for COVID-19. The COVID vaccination drive is underway across country. So far 11,72,23,509 COVID vaccine jabs have been inoculated.

COVID: CM Yediyurappa chairs emergency meeting after highest spike in cases

Bengaluru, Apr 16 (ANI): Amid continuous surge in COVID-19 cases, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa held an emergency meeting at his residence on April 16. State Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar and other senior officials were present at the meeting. Karnataka reported highest single-day spike with 14,738 COVID cases and 66 deaths in last 24 hours.

Niranjani Akhara exits Kumbh Mela amid rising COVID cases

Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Apr 16 (ANI): Seeing the rise of COVID cases, the Niranjani Akhada announced its intentions to limit their participation in Kumbh Mela till April 17. The development comes after several of the saints testing positive for coronvirus. Niranjani Akhada secretary Mahant Ravindra Puri said the 'Maha Snan' has concluded, and keeping in mind the continuous spread of COVID-19, the akhada will not participate in the event any further. However, Kumbh Mela Inspector General Sanjay Gunjyal said the decision is limited to the jurisdiction of the akhada and the ongoing Kumbh Mela will continue until further orders. More than 1000 devotees have tested positive for coronavirus in last few days, with images and videos of massive gathering at Har Ki Pauri attracting criticism amid the second wave of pandemic in the country.

Deceased COVID patient's kin allegedly vandalise hospital over 'negligence'

Bhagalpur (Bihar), Apr 15 (ANI): Family members of a COVID-19 patient, who died in ICU ward on April 14, allegedly vandalised Mayaganj hospital in Bihar's Bhagalpur. MP govt not hiding data on COVID deaths: State Health Minister

Bhopal (MP), Apr 14 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Prabhuram Choudhary asserted that the state government is not hiding any COVID data and the correct figures are updated daily. "Apart from COVID19 infected bodies, suspected bodies are also being cremated as per COVID protocol. COVID blues: Maha govt's restrictions hampering daily wagers of film industry

Mumbai, Apr 14 (ANI): Amid increasing COVID-19 cases in state, Maharashtra government on April 13 announced a series of strict restrictions in the state till May 1 including the imposition of Section 144. Bollywood industry is also feeling the heat. According to All Indian Cine Workers Association president, the industry is bearing loses as spot boys and other daily wagers have returned to their hometown due to no work. "We support lockdown, but there has to be a way for us. Government talks about others but not daily wagers in our industry," he said. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on April 13 announced a series of strict restrictions in the state till May 1 including the imposition of Section 144 from Wednesday in view of rising COVID-19 cases but said he will not term the new restrictions as "lockdown".

'Situation not good': COVID patients struggle to get beds at Patna hospital

Patna (Bihar), Apr 14 (ANI): As second wave of the coronavirus is testing the country, families and attendants of COVID-19 patients are struggling to get beds at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) in Patna. One of the doctors at the hospital said that the "situation is not good" as most of the patients arriving at the hospital are critical. Dr Ajay Kumar Sinha said, "Situation is not good, we are receiving much more patients than we did the last time. Most of the patients we get are critical and need oxygen support." Currently there are 20,148 active cases in the state.
