Tibetan admin claims two more self-immolations, toll 62

There have been 76 bids of self-immolations so far which resulted in 62 deaths, a senior CTA official said yesterday here.

According to Tibetan Foreign Minister in Exile, Dicki Chhoyang, Sangdhak Tsering, 24, a father of three-year-old child, died after setting fire to himself in Rebgong on Saturday evening.

"The death of Sangdhak came close on the heels of self-immolation by a woman in the same area three hours back," she claimed yesterday.

Nine Tibetans have immolated themselves in Rebgong area this month alone, said Dicki.

The CTA had organised a prayer service at the main temple in Dharamsala on Saturday to mourn the tragic self-immolations in Tibet.

"The Chinese leadership must heed the urgent call of the international community, especially the UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay's strong appeal, to promptly address the long-standing grievances of Tibetans," said the Tibetan Foreign Minister in Exile.

The CTA also quoted the US government about the "worsening" situation inside Tibet.

"We regularly raise our concern about the Tibetan self-immolations with Chinese authorities. We encourage China to work with authorities in Tibet to address the grievances of the people and to protect the cultural diversity of their country. So this is obviously
