Who is Aishe Ghosh?

Aishe Ghosh is a student activist and politician who will make her electoral debut in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2021. Ghosh will be contesting the election from Jamuria constituency in West Bengal on a Communist Party of India (Marxist) ticket. She is a research scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and is currently the president of the JNU Students Union (JNUSU).  She is also a member of Student’s Federation of India, (SFI). SFI is a student’s wing of CPI(M).
 
Ghosh hails from Durgapur in the Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal. Born on October 22, 1995, Ghosh is the oldest child of Debashish Ghosh and Sharmishta Ghosh. Her father is a member of Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), which is the labour wing of CPI(M) and he works at Damodar Valley Corporation. Aishe’s mother Sharmishta Ghosh is a housewife.
 
Aishe Ghosh did her graduation in political science from Daulat Ram College in Delhi. Then, she went on to do post-graduation from JNU where she is currently pursuing Ph.D.
 
She has been actively involved in leading student protests against fee hike in universities, sexual harassment cases, and also has been involved in leading anti-Citizenship Act protests.
 
She came under the spotlight recently after suffering head injuries in an attack allegedly led by the student members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
