Mangalore-based Karnataka Bank has reported 42.57 per cent jump in net profit at Rs 59.61 crore for the second quarter ending September 30, 2006 compared with Rs 41.81 crore reported in the same period last year.
 
For the half year ended September 30, 2006, net profit went up by 15.44 per cent to Rs 96.39 crore. The bank registered 21 per cent jump in total income at Rs 344.01 crore for the September quarter against Rs 285.25 crore in the corresponding period last year.
 
Net interest income has increased by 11.26 per cent to Rs 185.96 crore during the period as against the same period last fiscal.
 
Operating profit for the quarter stood at Rs 74.08 crore against Rs 65.31 crore in the same period last fiscal, a growth of 13 per cent. But the bank's bottomline looks better as it has been helped by a writeback of Rs 16.32 crore from provisions.
