Switzerland has knocked the world champions France out of the Euro 2020 as they won their round of 16 match 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the match ended in 3-3 (exra time) tie at the National Arena in Burchest on Tuesday.

It was an outstanding shoot-out until the very end, when Swiss goalkeeper Sommer saved Mbappe penalty, and the Switzeland fans were estatic in Bucharest. France were dejected, but the Swiss advances to next round, where they face Spain in the quarter-finals on Friday in St Petersburg.

57th minute: France scores the equaliser What a turnaround in a matter of minutes! It's a goal that's both simple and brilliant at the same time. Mbappe prods the ball through to Benzema, it's behind him but a brilliant first touch opens it up for him and he lifts tha ball over Sommer to score.

85th minute: Croatia has pulled back one goal back. Budimir receives the ball from Brekalo on the right side of the penalty area, and the Osasuna forward cleverly turns to beat Pau Torres, teeing up Modric on the byline to send a low cross into the goalmouth. As Budimir tries to poke the ball over the line, Azpilicueta's frantic clearance strikes Ori and goes in, causing a scramble on the line.
77th minute: Spain adds a third goal! Pau Torres lofts a long diagonal pass towards Ferran Torres from around the halfway line on the left, finding his teammate with a large amount of space just outside the penalty area on the opposite side, the bounce of the ball deceiving Gvardiol. The quick-footed livewire races past the defender, leaving his marker stranded as he chests the ball beyond him before taking a touch and blasting past the onrushing Livakovi, who has little chance of stopping the finish. Spain will undoubtedly believe they have qualified for the quarter-finals!

Spain equalises due to teamwork and perseverance, which began with swift, precise passing between Koke, Pedri, and Sarabia as they advanced inside the penalty area from the right. Gaya ultimately puts in an angled drive from just outside the danger zone, which Livakovic parries, and Sarabia slams the ball into the net from close range.
