The $75 million Proxim Wireless is a global pioneer in developing and supplying scalable broadband wireless networking systems for service providers, municipalities, governments, and enterprises.
"The Hyderabad centre is a key component of our global strategy to drive the local development and delivery of our industry-leading products and to serve as an incubator for continued wireless development," company's president and chief operating officer, Pankaj Manglik, said adding that the company's investment in the new centre this year would be over $2 million.
Manglik told Business Standard that Proxim was currently holding discussions with major internet service providers (ISPs) in India to accelerate the development and deployment of its Wi-Fi mesh, WiMAX, and MeshMAX product lines.
At present, Sify Limited had deployed Proxim's WiMAX-capable product line as its core communications platform for its mobility features and last mile access in India.
Apart from focusing on the spread of wireless connectivity, Manglik said the US company would concentrate on deployment of security and surveillance systems it had developed. "Besides Sify, we want to rope in other partners in this regard," he said.
Proxim Wireless, according to Manglik, has chosen Hyderabad as the location for its new centre because it is the emerging IT hub in India and, as such, gives the company access to the area's highly-skilled and cost-effective technology workforce.
