An Air India aircraft from Bengaluru made an emergency landing at the Delhi airport due to suspected engine fire on Thursday evening, according to sources. The crew followed all standard operating procedures and landed the aircraft safely at the Delhi airport. All passengers and crew are safe and have disembarked normally, the airline said in a statement. The A320 aircraft was operating the flight AI2802 from Bengaluru to Delhi. "During the aircraft's final approach into Delhi, the cockpit crew received a fire indication from one of the engines. The indication was subsequently confirmed as true," the statement said. One of the sources said it was yet to be confirmed whether there was fire in the engine. The sources said there were more than 160 people onboard the aircraft. The Delhi Traffic Police conducted five special joint enforcement drives near the domestic terminals of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport this week to remove encroachments, officials said on Saturday. According to an official statement, the drive was carried out in coordination with a multinational conglomerate and locals of Mehram Nagar village with the goal of decongesting roads and ensuring smoother traffic flow for passengers and commuters travelling to and from the airport. The Mehram Nagar village is located near Terminal 1 of the IGI airport. Action was taken against unauthorised hawkers and vehicles parked in violation of traffic regulations along the roadside that were obstructing the flow of traffic, the statement read. As many as 35 departures and 36 arrivals were cancelled at the Mumbai airport while 22 departures and 17 arrivals were cancelled at the Delhi airport, according to officials. Delhi airport operator DIAL, in a post on X, said due to the current situation in the Middle East, some west-bound international flights may experience delays or schedule changes. The conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran that started on February 28 has significantly impacted flight operations as some of the airspaces in the Middle East are closed. Many airlines are only operating a limited number of services.

Three Myanmar nationals have been booked after Delhi Customs officers seized over 2 kg of gold worth Rs 2.89 crore from them at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, officials said on Saturday. The three male passengers, who arrived from Yangon, Myanmar, on January 14, were intercepted while crossing the green channel at the international arrivals hall of Terminal 3, an official statement said. "On thorough personal search and baggage examination, 13 gold bars, were recovered from them. The weight of 13 uneven rectangular shaped gold is 2158 grams," the statement said. According to the officials, the gold recovered was appraised at a tariff value of Rs 2.89 crore. The gold has been seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 and three passengers were placed under arrest according to the provisions of Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962, it added.
