Dell Technologies on Friday announced the appointment of Manish Gupta as president and managing director for India, effective immediately. Gupta will lead the company's growth initiatives and drive sales in India, a company statement said. He will report to Peter Marrs, president, Asia Pacific Japan & Greater China (APJC), Dell Technologies. Gupta takes over from Alok Ohrie, who is leaving the company to concentrate on personal pursuits, the company said. Gupta brings in over 25 years of experience in the IT industry, including over ten years in leadership positions at Dell Technologies. Before his current role, he headed global alliances, channel partnerships, and strategic planning for the APJC region. He has also held the position of vice president of the Infrastructure Solutions Group in India. The global PC landscape is poised for a seismic shift as artificial intelligence (AI) PCs are projected to dominate the market, with 98 per cent of all PCs expected to feature AI capabilities by 2028, according to a senior Dell executive. Talking to PTI, Senior Director and General Manager of Client Solutions Group at Dell Technologies India, Indrajit Belgundi said AI PC adoption is significantly growing across all age groups, industries, and categories. "By 2028, almost 98 per cent of all PCs will be AI PCs that come with new NPUs (neural processing units) that run AI tasks directly on the phone. They are designed to be faster, more secure, energy-efficient that will take productivity, creativity, and collaboration to new levels in the workday. In a bid to further strengthen its presence in Karnataka, Texas-based technology conglomerate Dell is considering a fresh investment in its research and development (R&D) centre in Bengaluru, according to the office of Karnataka Large and Medium Industries & Infrastructure Minister M B Patil. The company already operates a prominent research and development centre in Bengaluru. At the global level, Dell operates around 25 manufacturing facilities with 14 of these facilities dedicated to R&D. On Friday, senior officials from Dell held meetings with Patil at Austin in the USA and sought support from the Karnataka government to overcome import restrictions on Special Economic Zone (SEZ) operations, which would enhance cost sustainability for Dell's expansion in India, his office said in a statement here. Dell Technologies India will continue to strengthen its omni-channel ecosystem to meet the requirement of customers in the current dynamic market scenario, a senior company official said on Tuesday.
