692 CNG buses to go off road by year end after route rationalisation: DTC

Delhi Transport Corporation has completed the pilot project of rationalisaton of routes for buses in East Delhi, with 692 CNG buses gradually going off roads by the end of this year, officials said. The rationalisation will also be carried out in West region and North region and none of the 12-metre bus route will be discontinued. Even under reduced fleet availability, at least one bus on each route shall be operated, they said. "While IIT-Delhi is carrying out route rationalisation of the 9 metre buses, the DTC and Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System Limited (DIMTS), which operates cluster buses, have jointly carried out route rationalisation of 121 routes for 12 metres long buses. DTC to expand its EV charging infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is preparing to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure by establishing charging facilities for heavy commercial vehicles at nine depots across the city, officials said on Saturday. This initiative aligns with the Delhi government's plan to fully convert the public transport fleet to electric vehicles within the next year and a half. The DTC has begun setting up the charging infrastructure at the following depots: Rohini Sector 37, Keshopur, Nangloi, Kalkaji, Sukhdev Vihar, Nand Nagri, Ghazipur, and Hasanpur, according to a transport department officer. The estimated cost for the charging infrastructure at these depots is over Rs 31 crores. Delhi govt likely to start interstate bus service from September 25

The Delhi government is likely to launch its interstate bus service on September 25, over a decade after it was halted after transition of DTC buses to CNG, officials said. Earlier this year, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) approved a plan to introduce 100 electric interstate buses on 17 routes. Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said, "Tomorrow is PM Narendra Modi's birthday. Delhi and the entire country is going to celebrate it as a festival. DTC's liabilities increase by Rs 37,000 crore in 5 years: CAG report

The Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) liabilities rose from Rs 28,263 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 65,274 crore in 2021-22, as it incurred operational losses of more than Rs 14,000 crore during the same period, according to a CAG report tabled in the Assembly on Monday. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabled the report on the functioning of the DTC for the year ending March 31, 2022, in the budget session. The report highlighted that the public transporter had not prepared any Business Plan or Perspective Plan, nor signed any MoU with the state government to set physical and financial targets to contain its working losses. The transporter was also found not to have set benchmark to asses its performance as against other state transport undertakings. The DTC did not conduct any study on profitability/sustainability even though it was incurring losses continuously, the report noted. DTC electric bus catches fire in Hauz Khas, no casualties reported

An electric bus of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) gutted in a fire in the Hauz Khas area here on Sunday morning, officials of the Delhi Fire Services said. No casualties were reported in the incident, the DTC officials said. "The driver and the bus conductor acted immediately and asked all the passengers to get down, which averted a major incident," an official of the DFS said. Officials said that they received information around 11.10 am. Three fire tenders were pressed into service near the Padmini Enclave area. It took about an hour for the firefighters to douse the flames, officials said. However, the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. Bus number 502 was on route from Old Delhi towards Mehrauli.

'Avg daily passengers count in DTC buses yet to reach pre-Covid levels'

The average daily count of passengers travelling in DTC buses declined from 33.31 lakh in 2019-20 to 25.02 lakh in 2022-23, while the corresponding figure for cluster buses fell from 17.71 lakh to 16.39 lakh, according to the Delhi Economic Survey 2023-24. Finance Minister Atishi presented the Economic Survey in the Delhi Assembly on Friday. According to the survey, the average daily passenger count in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses is yet to reach pre-pandemic figures. The report showed that while the bus fleet in DTC has declined from 3,951 in 2017-18 to 3,937 in 2022-23, the cluster bus fleet has grown from 1,744 to 3,293. According to the Economic Survey, the average daily number of passengers travelling in DTC buses stood at 29.86 lakh in 2017-18. It rose to 30.15 lakh in the next financial year and then to 33.31 lakh in the 2019-20 fiscal. Delhi govt sanctions Rs 280 cr towards pensions of retired DTC employees

The Delhi government has sanctioned around Rs 280 crore for payment of pensions to more than 20,000 retired employees of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) pending from September to January. The retired DTC employees had approached the government multiple times for the release of their pensions. "About Rs 280 crore has been sanctioned for payment of pending pension of more than 20,000 retired pensioner employees of DTC from September to January. The pending pension will be transferred to the pensioners' accounts within the next two to three days," Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said in a post on 'X' in Hindi. Delhi govt to offer free travel for third gender in DTC, cluster buses

The Delhi government is planning to offer free travel to people belonging to the third gender in DTC and cluster buses, officials said on Monday. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has partnered with a travel app for ensuring that commuters in the national capital do not have to visit multiple sites to book bus tickets and cabs by bringing different modes of transport on one platform. Delhi Mohalla bus scheme: DTC to sign contract to procure electric-busses

The Delhi government's ambitious 'mohalla' bus scheme is expected to be rolled out within the next few months with the DTC likely to sign a contract for procuring electric buses within this week, an official said on Wednesday. The mohalla bus service, announced in the 2023-24 Delhi budget, aims to deploy shorter nine-metre electric buses to boost last-mile connectivity in areas with roads that have less width or are crowded. A majority of schemes under the Women and Child Development Department are on track, according to the Delhi government's Outcome Budget for 2022-23 presented in the Assembly on Monday. Tata Motors on Friday said its arm -- TML CV Mobility Solutions Ltd -- has signed an agreement with Delhi Transport Corporation for the operation of 1,500 electric buses in the National Capital.
