The Maharashtra government on Monday approved the recruitment of 5,012 assistant professors in non-government aided senior colleges, introducing mandatory CCTV recording of the entire interview process to ensure transparency. As per a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the Higher and Technical Education Department, the posts had been approved based on student-strength and workload calculations as of October 2025 across state public universities. The GR provides further instructions from time to time to ensure transparency in the recruitment process. Colleges must obtain university approval for recruitment advertisements and publish them in a national newspaper and a state-level newspaper, it said, adding that applications can be accepted both online and offline. Candidates will be shortlisted as per the criteria prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), while social and parallel reservation policies would have to be followed. The Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday released a job calendar for over 8,500 jobs in three phases, which will supplement more than 1,500 jobs already notified under the first phase in May. Principal Finance Secretary Peeyush Kumar said 3,231 jobs will be notified under the second phase on September 15 and 2,311 jobs and another 2,995 jobs will be notified under the third and fourth phases on October 15. On May 15, Kumar said 1,523 jobs were already notified by the Higher Education Department. Together, in four phases, 10,060 jobs in total will be filled through direct recruitment. "Government, hereby accords permission to the concerned Recruiting Agencies, namely APPSC (Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission), APSLPRB (Andhra Pradesh State Level Police Recruitment Board), DSC (District Selection Committee) etc., to fill up 10,060 vacancies in various Departments through Direct Recruitment," Kumar said in a Government Order (GO). The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday approved a five-year relaxation in the age limit for all candidates applying for government jobs through direct recruitment, applicable until December 31, 2027, official sources said. The relaxation applies to candidates across all categories. In September last year, the government had announced a three-year age relaxation. Under the new provision, for example, if the maximum age for a post is 35 years, candidates up to 40 years will now be eligible to apply. Officials said the move comes in view of recruitment delays caused by a freeze imposed in October 2024 while finalising internal reservation among Scheduled Castes (SCs). Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday claimed 26,000 government jobs were created in the state in the last four years, and the figure will reach at least 36,000 by next year. Dhami shared the numbers at a press conference here held to mark the beginning of the silver jubilee celebrations of the establishment of Uttarakhand. The West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) is ready to publish the digital mirror images of Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets of all 22 lakh candidates who appeared for the 2016 exams with appropriate legal advice, state Education Minister Bratya Basu said on Friday. The Supreme Court court had on April 3 upheld a 2024 Calcutta High Court judgment annulling the recruitment of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching staff appointed through the 2016 SSC recruitment drive, terming the entire selection process vitiated and tainted. Emerging from a meeting with agitating teachers and non-teaching staff, Basu said the state government was hopeful of publishing the list within two weeks. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over appointment letters to 385 youths in the health and education sectors on Monday, claiming that the government has already exceeded its election promise. At an official function, Sarma said with these new appointments, a total of 125,030 people have been given government jobs since he took office in May 2021. "Our government fulfilled its election promise of providing one lakh jobs long ago. No other government in Assam's history has created so many jobs in such a transparent and efficient manner," he said.
