Julana

One of the most high-profile constituencies this time, Julana seat ticket marks the beginning of Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s political career. She will fight the battle against BJP’s Capt Yogesh Bairagi and AAP’s Kavita Devi, also a wrestler. Phogat, who recently joined the Congress, is expected to solidify the party’s influence among farmers, youth and women.

Three-time Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat joined Congress ahead of Haryana polls along with fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia. She comes one of the most renowned wrestling families. Mahavir Phogat is her uncle.

In the Paris Olympics, she became India's first woman wrestler to reach the finals but was disqualified after failing a weigh-in on the day of her gold medal match.

Was in controversy after she, Punia and Sakshi Malik carried out street protests in Delhi against Brij Bhushan Singh in 2023. They accused Singh of sexual assault of many wrestlers and misuse of his power as the head of the wrestling body.

Through her, Congress is aiming to solidify its vote among women, farmers and youth.

Phogat got married to fellow wrestler Somvir Rathee in December 2018.
