Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday attended all-party meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana ahead of the Monsoon Session beginning from Monday. Besides Adityanath, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey (Samajwadi Party), Minister Sanjay Nishad, Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) leader Om Prakash Rajbhar, Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra, BSP MLA Umashankar Singh, and independent MLA Kunwar Raghuraj Pratap Singh Raja Bhaiya' were present in the meeting. Several issues, including running the House smoothly and agenda to be taken up, were discussed during the meeting, a senior official said. Earlier, Chief Minister Adityanath inaugurated the newly constructed dome at the entrance of the Vidhan Bhavan and the Assembly hall. He also inaugurated the renovated Assembly hall number 15 and a VVIP canteen.
Amid a debate over the absence of a deputy speaker in the Lok Sabha, data compiled by a think tank shows eight state assemblies not having anyone in the position, with Jharkhand not electing one for more than 20 years. According to a report on the Annual Review of State Laws, 2024, released by PRS Legislative Research, state assemblies sat for an average of 20 days, amounting to an average of 100 hours in total, last year. Article 178 of the Constitution requires state assemblies to choose two members as speaker and deputy speaker as soon as possible, according to the report. Assemblies of eight states and Union territories did not have a deputy speaker as of April 2025, the think tank said in the report. The list includes Jharkhand, which has not elected a deputy speaker for more than 20 years. The first session of the newly constituted Delhi Assembly commenced on Monday, marking the BJP's return to power after 26 years and its shift to the right side of the Speaker's chair. BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely was sworn-in as the pro-tem Speaker and administered the oath by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at the Raj Niwas before the session began. As the senior-most legislator, Lovely will oversee the swearing-in of all newly elected MLAs. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was the first to take the oath, followed by her six Cabinet ministers. The district administration in Bhopal has banned the use of loud sound systems including at religious places, to curb noise pollution from 10 PM to 6 AM. This order comes as a relief for students appearing for upcoming board examinations for 10th and 12th. Additionally, owners of DJs (systems), hotels, restaurants and bars will have to apply for licenses for using sound systems allowed within prescribed limits. Violators will be prosecuted under section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The ban came into effect on January 23. The Additional District Magistrate (ADM) stated that the order complies with the directives issued by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal regarding loudspeakers and checking noise pollution. The directive stated that the use of loudspeakers and DJ systems will be banned from 10 PM to 6 AM across the Bhopal district.
