The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) said that around 85 petitions have been filed with the labour departments of various states against major IT companies and several others for alleged layoffs.
FITE is an organisation trying to form a union of IT employees.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Vinod A J, general secretary of the forum said that in the next few weeks around 100 sacked employees will be filing complaints against their companies under its guidance.

The Forum claims that 47 laid off employees have filed a petition with the labour department in Pune. The petitioners hail from various organisations including Cognizant, Wipro, Vodafone, Intel and Tech Mahindra.  Former Cognizant and Tech Mahindra employees have filed thirteen petitions in Hyderabad.

The pleas have been filed under the sections 2A (for individuals) and 2K (for a collective party) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
