Printing industry sees no threat from digital upsurge

Estimated at $16,000 million, the sector aims to grow at 10-12% a year

BS Reporter Bhubaneswar
Unfazed by the growing appeal of the digital media, the printing industry in the country aims to grow at the rate of 10-12 per cent every year.

"As of now, the digital medium is no threat to the printing industry except for a few niche segments like wedding cards, visiting cards and brochures. If you consider long-term basis, offset printing is here to stay. Speed is another advantage for the printing industry", J S Kalsi, treasurer, Indian Printing Packaging & Allied Machinery Manufacturers' Association told mediapersons here.

The size of the domestic printing and packing industry is estimated at $16,000 million and is dominated by the MSME (micro, small & medium enterprises) sector.

"The Indian printing industry is poised for another revolution with its Make in India products and solutions. However, the need of the hour is to bring the entire industry under one common platform which is being achieved through Print Pack India 2015 which is poised to be the largest platform for printers, packaging, graphics and other allied industries across the globe", said Kalsi.

The 12th edition of Print Pack India scheduled to be held from February 11-15 at Greater Noida Expo Mart is expected to draw more than 150,000 visitors compared to a footfall of around 75,000 in the previous edition of the expo held in 2013. The last edition of Print Pack India had received business enquiries worth $230 million.
