In 2015, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for the first time had tabulated data in terms of relationship of the victim and the accused in cases involving rape. According to the data compiled by the NCRB for 2015, 8,800 cases of rape on children were registered across the country under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act. In 2,227 cases, or 25.3 per cent, the offenders were found to be employers or co-workers.

* In over 10% of cases last year, children were subjected to rape by their own family members or relatives
* In 94.8% cases, children were raped by someone known to them
* In terms of the regional spread of crimes against children, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number, followed by Madhya Pradesh. Delhi also has something to contribute.
