The Patiala House Court on Thursday summoned Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul in a case of alleged irregularities in taking control of Associated Journals, a company which owned National Herald, a newspaper founded by Rahul's great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru. The court issued summons to the duo and five others to appear on August 7.
The summons came on a petition filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy alleging the Gandhis, along with senior Congress leaders Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes, manipulated the shareholding of Associated Journals through a series of transactions with an intention to take control of Rs 1,600 crore worth of real estate assets owned by the company.
