State-owned NTPC may not get natural gas at the price committed by Mukesh Ambani-led RIL, with Petroleum Minister Murli Deora on Thursday saying in Parliament the rate has no approval from the government.
Replying to a Calling Attention motion in the Rajya Sabha on availability of gas to the power sector, Deora said RIL had not sought approval for the $2.34 per million British thermal unit (mBtu) price quoted in NTPC’s 2004 tender. Since no approval had been sought by RIL as required under the Production Sharing Contract, the $4.20 per mBtu price approved in 2007 will be applicable, he said.
