'World's largest grain storage' scheme for food security soon: Report

The disruptions in food supply and high inflation due to the war in Ukraine have increased food security concerns in several countries, including India

Trade sources said wheat production in 2022-23 (FY23) could be lower than the estimated over 111 million tonnes (mt) due to a sudden and sharp rise in temperatures in some parts of North India.

The Centre is merging several schemes to develop the "world's largest grain storage" scheme amid global food disruptions in the wake of the war in Ukraine and the Covid-19 pandemic. Schemes under ministries including the ministry of agriculture and farmers welfare, consumer affairs, food and public distribution and food processing will soon be merged, a report by Mint stated.
