Weak European markets drag Sensex lower

After being rangebound in the morning trades, the Sensex has slipped to touch an intra-day low of 18,503 on the back of weak European markets. The Nifty is down 19 points at 5,561.

In the broader markets, the midacp and the smallcap too have pared some of its morning gains. The smallcap index is up 0.4% and the midcap index is hilding its gains, up 0.2% as comapred to the Sensex which is down 0.2%

Among the sectoral indices, IT and Auto indices are down 0.6% each followed by Health Care and Oil & Gas losing 0.4% and 0.2% respectively.Meanwhile, Realty index is up 0.7% leading the sectoral indices.

The top gainers on the Sensex are Hindalco, BHEL and Tata Power up 2% each followed by HDFC Bank, DLF and Jaiprakash Associates gaining 1% each.

Among the losers are Cipla and TCS down 2% followed by Mahindra & Mahindra, L&T,ICICI Bank and Reliance Communications down 1% each.

 

In the European markets, CAC and DAX is down 1% each and FTSE lost 0.7%.

The market breadth continues to remain positive. 1556 stocks have advanced while 1131 declined.
