The Union Cabinet has cleared a proposal for transfer of land for metro rail projects.
The proposal is aimed at restricting central government ministries, departments and PSUs from asking for land in exchange for land required for the implementation of metro rail projects.
They would be compensated in monetary terms for the transferred land based on the rates as per prevailing guideline values.
The other decisions taken by the cabinet include continuation of interest subvention to banks to enable them to provide short-term crop loans to farmers, continuation, strengthening and establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendras with an outlay of about 5740 crore rupees during 12th Plan, setting up six new Debt Recovery Tribunals at Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Ernakulam, Dehradun, Siliguri and Hyderabad and creation of five posts of Additional Solicitors General, one each for the High Courts of Punjab and Haryana, Patna, Jharkhand, Karnataka and its Circuit Benches at Hubli-Dharwad and Gulbarga and Gujarat.
