Cabinet Committee chaired by PM reviews rehabilitation work in Uttarakhand

A Cabinet Committee on Uttarakhand chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh reviewed the reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the flood-ravaged state here on Wednesday.

Defence Minister A K Antony, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Oscar Fernandes and Union Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat are among the members of the committee.

Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Vice Chairman M. Shashidhar Reddy are the permanent invitees to the committee.

 

This was the first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Uttarakhand, which has been tasked with providing broad guidance to reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts and take necessary decisions.

The Prime Minister has already announced 1,000 crore rupees for disaster relief measures in the flood-devastated parts of the state.

Various Central Ministries have also announced additional financial assistance for Uttarakhand.
