Congress betraying Telangana people over separate state claims: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesman Captain Abhimanyu Sindhu on Friday expressed his concern over the non-resolution of the Telangana statehood issue, and accused the UPA of failing in its promise to grant statehood to the people of Telangana.

"In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi promised the people of Telangana that they will give them Telangana within one year. But, like the other promises they make, they have failed to fulfill this. Because of which so many people have lost their lives demanding for a separate state," he said.

Sindhu said that the BJP has always been in favour of small states and Telangana Government will soon be formed in the country.

"BJP believes that soon the NDA Government will be there at the Centre, and the dream of the Telangana people will be achieved very soon," he added.

The Congress core committee is expected to hold a meeting tomorrow, to decide whether separate Telangana statehood should be granted.

The Telangana Movement was organized to support the creation of a new state from the existing state of Andhra Pradesh. The long-standing demand of the people behind the movement has been that a separate state was the only solution to ending the neglect and exploitation in the region.
