Flash floods hits four district of Assam, kills seven

Flash floods wreaked four districts in Assam and its capital Guwahati on Friday killing seven people.

Several other persons have been reported to be injured.

Guwahati has been experiencing continuous rainfall in the last 15 hours, setting off flash floods in the city and adjoining areas.

In Guwahati, the worst sufferers are the residence of Anil Nagar, Rajgarh where floods have inundated large residential areas.

Water depths in these areas are between five to six feet due to which people are unable to come out of their houses.

The districts impacted by the floods are Lakhimpur, Darrang, Sonitpur and Udalguri, besides Guwahati and Kamrup.

The National Disaster Response Force, or the NDRF, and SDRF have started rescue operations in east Guwahati. The NDRF has been providing with water bottles to the person, which currently has become one of the most crucial things for the people.

 

A total of five relief camps have been opened, with nearly 10,000 people taking refuge in them.
