Local political parties, government officials and people have expressed their outrage over an Indian police team crossing into Nepal territory to raid a house in search of runaway criminals.

The incident took place in Gulariya-8 in Southern Nepal's Bardiya District.

The police team from Uttar Pradesh reportedly raided the house of a local resident, Manjur Prasad Shrestha, saying that they are searching for criminals.

Nepal Police spokesperson Navaraj Silwal described it as an unlawful act, and added that it was being discussed at appropriate top levels of the two governments.

Political parties said Nepal's sovereignty has been attacked by India.

The opposition CPN-Maoist demanded a public apology from New Delhi.

The People's Front Nepal,a fringe political outfit, said such incidents are a direct beach of international border laws.
