Filmmaker JJ Abrams, who will be directing the upcoming 'Star Wars
Walt Disney studios had previously announced that the sci-fi film would be opening in the theatres on Dec. 18, 2015, to make sure that their extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture.
During an interview with MTV, Abrams said that the new release date is great, because now they can release something great, Metro.co.uk reported.
This marks the first time in the franchise's history where a 'Star Wars' film won't be released in the summer.
