Kenya's Westgate shopping mall reopens 22 months after al-Shabab attack

The Westgate shopping mall in the capital city of Kenya has reopened almost two years after an attack by al-Shabab militants that killed 67 people.

According to BBC, al-Shabab gunmen barged into the shopping mall and opened fire on shoppers in September 2013, leading to a siege over four days.

After an extensive refurbishment, around half of the shops are reopening.

The mall reopens a week before U.S. President Barack Obama visits Nairobi, which the city's governor said 'was a sign that the Kenyan capital was safe'.
