ANI New Delhi

An earthquake of 'great intensity' struck Nepal again on Tuesday, a mere fortnight after a similar quake had claimed over 7000 lives and devastated the Himalayan nation.

"An earthquake of great intensity measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale occurred at around 12.35 p.m. The latitude was 27.6 degrees north and longitude was 86.0 east, around 70 kilometres south-east of

Kathmandu," Seismology Department director J L Gautam told ANI.

"This will be viewed as an aftershock of the April 25 earthquake because it occurred in the general vicinity of the 7.9 quake," he added.

Further details are awaited.
