Security was tightened in Delhi's Trilokpuri area on the occasion of Muharram on Tuesday.
Along with the local police, Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were also seen on patrol in the area.
The measures have been taken in the wake of last week's communal clashes in the area which had left five injured including two teenagers.
Since 1989, Muharram processions have been banned in Srinagar after a pro-independence revolt started in Kashmir.
Only small mourning rallies and processions are allowed in selected areas with limited Shi'ite populations. Every year, Muslims mourn the tragedy of Karbala during the holy month of Muharram.
