Defending champion Serena Williams on Sunday came out with a stunning performance to beat Germany's Annika Beck and book a spot in the last 16 of the Wimbledon 2016.

The top-seeded player took less than an hour to dismantle the 43rd ranked German player 6-3, 6-0.

This victory was Serena's 300th career Grand Slam win. The defending champion is chasing a seventh All England Club title and an Open era record-equalling 22nd Grand Slam trophy.

The top ranked player said she wasn't aware of the milestone until she was asked about it in a post-match interview.

"Was it? Cool. Oh, nice," she said with a laugh. "I had no idea. That's awesome, right? That's good, right? I think that's a lot of matches."

Legendary Steffi Graf (377) and Martina Navratilova (332) are the only players ahead of the American in the all-time most slam wins list.

Because of rain delays in the first week that caused a backlog of matches, it was only for the fourth time in Wimbledon's 139-year history that play was scheduled on the middle Sunday, which is the traditional rest day.
